Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 2 Challenge
Q1) To define connectors and connector clips using the Electrical part design workbench in the CATIA V5 tool
Solution:
Electrical Definition and Catalogue Creation using the Electrical part design workbench in the CATIA V5 tool
The 3d geometry models used to define are as follows :
| Connector | Image | No of position | Type | Connection |
| Deutsch DT06-08SA | ![]() |
8 | Automotive Connector | Housing for Female Terminal |
| 174357-2 | ![]() |
3 | Automotive Connector Housing | Housing for Female Terminal |
| 85229-1 | ![]() |
na |
Automotive Connector Accessories |
Mounting clip |
The above connectors and mounting clip 3d models are imported into the CATIA V5 GUI.
The image below shows the Deutsch DT06-08SA connector 3d model in an isometric view

Electrical definition:
Switching from part design workbench to electrical part design workbench. The 3d model component of the DT06-08SA connector has been defined electrically by defining the connector, bundle entry point, and connector connection point, switching to part design, and then defining the point and axis system. Once again switching to the electrical part design workbench to define the bundle entry, connector connection, and cavity connections.

For defining the electrical connection to the 174357-2 connector housing, similar to the above procedure was followed.

For defining the mechanical connection to the 85229-1 connector mounting clip, a similar to the above procedure was followed.

While positioning the axis system it was ensured that consistency was maintained between all the components for assembly.
The below image shows the connection of electrical devices between the automotive connector housing and mounting clip using an electrical assembly design workbench.

Catalog creation:
The connector housing and the mounting clip have been assigned in a catalog to access from the library for repeated operations and also to share with the stakeholders.

Conclusion:
The electrical connectors and their mounting clips were defined using Catia v5 electric harness part design and assembly. Also, the catalog has been defined for quicker access to similar files.
