Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit
1) Major elements identified from the above given automotive wiring diagram are listed below:
Battery, starter motor, ignition coil, distributor, Current and voltage regulator, generator, foot selector switch, ignition switch, instrument panel, fuse, ammeter, horn, breaker, Indicator light, beam light, gas tank unit etc.
2) Purpose and working of Battery
The main purpose of the battery is to provide a sufficient amount of energy to drive various systems and subsystems.
Working: to store and deliver the energy in a chemical form whenever it's needed to run the system, subsystems and components.
Purpose and working of the starter motor
The main purpose of a starter motor is to provide an initial torque to crank/drive the engine.
working: power from the battery is utilized to drive the motor to crank the engine with high starting torque.
Purpose and working of distributor
The primary purpose of the distributor is to supply the required voltage for the combustion process in IC Engine.
working: The ignition coil supplies a sufficient amount of voltage to the distributor unit which will be accordingly distributed to the engine cylinder based on the firing order of the engine (like 1-3-5-4-6-2 cylinders respectively).
3)
Given:
The total load is 10 A from the battery (steady state current)
I= 10 A
v = 12V (from hint)
P = V*I = 12*10 = 120 W
Fuse rating = ((P * Power factor) / V)
By considering the power factor as 1.25
Fuse rating = 12.5 A
or
By considering the steady-state current value of the Fuse rating should be 135% of the given value of I
i.e., 10 * 135 = 13.5 A
The obtained fuse rating for a 10 A current from two approaches i.e., 12.5 A and 13.5A the next available standard fuse rating is 15A.
4)
Given
P = 500 W (load)
Voltage and capacity of the battery?
we know that
P = V*I
V = P/I = 500/10
V = 50 V
assuming the time as T=1h
Capacity = I*T = 10*1 = 10 Ahr
The battery voltage is 50 V and the capacity of the battery is 10 Ahr
5) Identified two elements connected in parallel from the above automotive wiring circuit diagram are scaled beam and tail stop light.
Reason for the above listed two elements are connected in parallel is to supply the same amount of voltage to the elements/components at the same time in a closed circuit (switch is closed) in more than one path (circuit branches) for the current to flow in the above circuit.
6) Two elements connected in series from the above automotive wiring circuit diagram are fues and light switch.
Reason for the above listed two elements are connected in series to ensure the current flows from one element/component to the other element/component in closed circuit (switch is closed) in a single path for the current to flow in the above circuit.
