Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Applique Design with Engineering Features

PLASTIC FEATURE Heat Staking

AIM :

To create the rib feature for the coin holder plastic component by using CATIA.

PROCEDURE :

Screw Locator :

3-2-1 Principal

The 3-2-1 principle is to define as the job which may take part in some part of cutting forces to withstand the force the locators is to clamp in the job.

Screw Locator procedure :

Insert the geo set for the locator

By using the position sketch draw the locator line and constrain it after constraining the sketch pad it.

After thickness, the locator draft the angle for angle 0.5 deg and then fillet it

Then translate the 4-way locator to the other side.

Then following the same procedure do the 2-way locator.

Heat stakes :

Heat stakes are to join the two dissimilar points in the plastic.

Extract the boundary of the surface the boundary lines are created.

By using the point and the plane repetition use the instance the point should not interfere with the portion.

Move the parallel command curve by 15mm from the boundary.

By making the point for the heat stake create the circle and then pad it more than 15mm from the door.

And the do the fillet and the draft angle.

Afterwards, create the point which is to heat stakes by using point to point command

Then union trim the portion and assemble in the main body.

Then the next step is to clearance the locator and heat stakes

For locator 0.1mm and for the heat stake 0.05 mm

After clearance, it assembles with the main part body.

Then the draft analysis is done for the heat stakes and the locator

Tree structure :

Result

Thus the heat stakes and the locators are achieved by using catia v5
