PLASTIC FEATURE RIB

AIM :

To create the rib feature for the coin holder plastic component by using CATIA.

PROCEDURE :

RIB :

The rib is defined as the economical stiffness for the component & strength in molded parts without increasing wall thickness.

RULES FOR RIB DESIGN :

1. The Draft angle of the rib should be 0.5 deg per side.
2. The wall thickness of the Rib component W =0.4* component thickness
3. The minimum length at the tip of the rib should be 0.75.
4. Rib fillet radius 0.25 is max.
5. For calculating rib height = 5*thick of component

The above are the rules to make the rib in a component.

Steps :

• Insert the new geometrical set and name it a rib.
• Extract the face of the closed surface to create the rib feature.
• After extract, the face in the generative shape design creates a new point by using a point definition.
• Then by using line definition create a line in the Z-axis.
• Afterward, extrude the line with respect to the tooling axis.

PART DESIGN :

• Then enter into the part design from shape generative.
• Insert a new body in the Tree structure.
• Then thick the extrude portion for thickness.
• Then draft the angle by using procedure 0.5 deg on the faces.

Then the next step is to assemble the body in a COIN HOLDER BODY.

Then the next step is to fillet up the rib portion for a 0.25 fillet radius.

Nxt step is to intersection command the part in the shape generative design.

Nxt step is to create the root thickness between the rib and the component.

Ensure the measurement of the wall thickness is 2.5 mm.

Then the circle definition is clicked extract the fillet area and the wall surface and then click the tangent command.

Then the measurement of the circle is measured by measuring instrument.

Then the next step is to translate the rib portion. by the given rule 3:1 ratio.

Then the rib is translated at a distance of 3:1 ratio given rule

RESULT:

The rib future is achieved in the coin holder component.
