Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design

Aim: Creation of core and cavity for the switch bezel model condering the all design rules.

Tooling Axis Creation:

This is the Important Axis for the Production of Plastic component, Which directly depenting the opening and closing of the Core and Cavity.

Tooling axis is represented by the yellow dotted line which is created by the Bisection of the lines created according

to the adjasent surfaces cleared by all surfaces.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

Draft Angle = 3 Degree.

Checking a solid part using a command of FEATUR DRAFT ANALYSIS green color highlighted area having 3DEG and above.

The Colours represents the angle that make the surface with respect to the tooling axis.

Greater than 3 Degree represents the Red shaded part.

CORE AND CAVITY design

Core is the projection of the bodyand cavity is the depression of the body. these core and cavity combines to form a mould. then the plastic material injected into these mould to get a plastic part.

Core Block

Cavity Block

The cavity is the part where the injector and filling of the molten plastic happens.

Parting surface:

During the injecction molding process, these The Core and Cavity are pressed tightly from a sealed hollow to avoid the melt flow leakage and maintain certain holding pressure, the pressed surface are called parting surface , usually parting surface are the biggest projection outline of the part.

The Yellow Shaded Surface is represents the Parting surface.

Parting line:

A junction were the core and the cavity meets the parting line forms.

Given figure is the intersection made by core and cavity aling with parting line for understanding the parting line concept.

It is the area in which parting surface and component meets.

Orange line is the Parting line Surrounded by the Core Violet Line and the Cavity Skin Colour.

Tree Structure :

CONCULSION:

The core and cavity for the switch bezel has been created as per the design rules using CATIA V5.
