Week - 4 - 2D meshing for Plastic components

OBJECTIVE:

To check for the geometrical errors and take the mid surface for the given Plastic Bottle Cap model .

GIVEN :

Element Quality criteria for 2D mesh .

CAD MODEL:

PROCEDURE:

  1. Download the model and import it on GUI of ANSA software.
  2. Give cons resolution to the given plastic component mesh deck>length>perimeter. Check for geometry errors check>geometry>visible >run.
  3. Give topo from topo deck to get the orientation .
  4. Go to measure option and check the thickness of each surface by measuring the cons to get the value of thickness respectively.
  5. store the above values and create PIDS differently for such entites respectively.
  6. EXtracting mid surface is done by offset option from the topodeck . we get ,
  7. Extracting of outter surface is done by go to topo deck >curves>middle> select two curves to create middle >get the curves . Project the curve on the surface . go to topo deck >faces>new>select the required surface to be created between two curves.
  8. curves and teeth midsurface.
  9. Thus the midsurface is obtained for such geometry . Once we get midsurface we give topo for getting the connectivity.
  10. The midsurface obtained.
  11. PIDS created for different thickness surfaces.
  12. After taking the midsurface , we go to mesh the component by giving quality and mesh parameters.
  13. go to mehsh deck >mesh generation>best. to get proper mesh go to mesh deck >shell >reconstruction / smooth > select the elements.
  14. .
  15. Give the required thickness to each PIDS respectively. To view the elements in solid state go to Quality criteria > Presentation parameters>view as solid

CONCLUSION:

The given bottle cap is meshed as per the given quality criteria along with mannual midsurface.

FINAL MODEL:

Thickness.

Mid surface.

2D mesh .

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • mannual midsurface for plastic component
  • Assigning thickness to different PID entites
  • extracting midsurface using middle option from faces and cons group for ribs .
  • geometry clean up after extracting midsurface and improvising mesh flow.
  • using tranformation option to get the surfaces.
