Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

OBJECTIVE:

To take the mid surface for all the given components after checking the geometrical errors and mesh the mid surface with the given element Quality criteria.

GIVEN:

The quality criteria for 2D elements.

CAD MODEL:

PROCEDURE:

  1. Import the model from file>open.
  2. Once the model is imported check for the number of components of the given model by going to property Id.
  3. Individually go for Geometry checks in check manager as well as topo clean up in the topo deck>faces group >topo. After topo clean give the perimeter length as 5.
  4. By checking the thickness we understand whether it has uniform thickness or not . After checking we see that it has uniform thickness . Each component is measured one by one and values are stored for further use.
  5. Since it has uniform thickness we go to >totpo deck>faces group>midsurface>skin option> auto midsurfacing.
  6. Next step is to assign mesh parameters and the quality parameters.
  7. The above parameters remains same for all the components .
  8. after meshing and correcting the off elements , features capturing, mesh flow we get,
  9. Component 1
  10. For next component 2 we follow the same procedure
  11. Geometry checks>thickness measure>midsurface>mesh>mesh quality.
  12. For the next component 4 , since it is symmetrical we can mesh one side and copy the element to other side by using the transfrom option.
  13. Repeat the same procedure did for the component 1 to the last component of the given model .
  14. check geometry clean up > midsurface using skin option>give mesh and quality parameters>make changes in geometry lline> mesh> coreection of mesh flow and off element> transform the elements for symmetric .
  15. In the final stage assign the thickness of the given model for each components.
  16. Activate draw to solid quality paramteres>parameters>tick the draw to shell .

CONCLUSION:

The above given hood model is meshed as per the given quality criteria.

FINAL MODEL:

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Midsurfacing the sheet metal component.
  • Understanding the given assembled model and performing the given task step by step.
  • Checking for mesh flow , feature capturing , elements failure ,mesh quality.
