Week 3 : ADVISOR TOOL

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

Objective : To analyze EV default model changing the cargo mass to 500kg

Procedure:

1.After downloading Advance Vehicle Simulator(ADVISOR), open Matlab and load Advisor tool

2. In advisor tool, load EV_default_in file

3. Change Cargo mass to 500 kg and press continue

We can see the FTP cycle, the distance covered is 11.04 miles i.e. 17.76 km for 1 cycle. But to cover 27.97 miles i.e. 45 km, 3 FTP are covered.

We can see the results that, With a cargo load of 500 kg, covering a distance of 45 kilometres will be impossible.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation

Objective: To analyze EV default model by changing battery capacity.

Procedure:

1. In advisor tool, change cargo mass to 500 kg and press continue

2. In Energy storage block, increase the number of battery modules to 50

We can see the FTP cycle, the distance covered is 11.04 miles i.e. 17.76 km for 1 cycle. But to cover 27.97 miles i.e. 45 km, 3 FTP are covered.

Now when we have increased the number of modules to 50, it can be concluded that the battery power is sufficient to cover 45 kms.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file

Compare your results in table and conclude.

Objective : To analyze PRIUS_JPN_default model

Procedure:

1.After downloading Advance Vehicle Simulator(ADVISOR), open Matlab and load Advisor tool

2. In advisor tool, load PRIUS_JPN_default file and press continue

3. Select CYC_UDDS drive cycle

Case 1: In case 1, if we see the gradeability test vehicle speed is 55 mph and 10 secs

Case 2: In case 2, if we see the gradeability test vehicle speed is 70 mph and 15 secs

By seeing the above graphs and results, we can conclude that as the speed increases the vehicle gradeability decreases.
