Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

AIM:- Use ADVISOR tool and simulate the following objectives

OBJECTIVES:-

  1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
  2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
  3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file Compare your results in table and conclude.

STEP TO OPEN ADVISOR TOOL:-

  • Open the matlab, and then open the advisor tool file double click.

  • Write " advisor" in command window.

  • Start page is appear, Select "metric" and click to start.

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

  • As we open advisor to we get following page.

  • To get required result change "Load File" name to "EV_defaults_in"
  • Change Cargo mass by 500

By changing the cargo mass with 500 we get total mass of the vehicle =1508 kg

  • Now press continue for futher result
  • We get parameter page, Here we need to mannage number of cycle by which we can get traveling distance of 45km with FTP(Federal Test Procedure) drive cycle.
  • FTP(Federal Test Procedure) drive cycle:

This is a 'City driving cycle'. Which is a series of tests defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to measure tailpipe emissions and fuel economy of passenger cars.(excluding light trucks and heavy-duty vehicles).

  • Apply 1 cycle:

  • As we apply 1 cycle of FTP drive cycle. It runs for 2477sec of total cycle time.
  • Distance traveled is 17.77km.
  • Maximum speed is 91.25 Km/h.
  • Avarage speed is 25.82 Km/h.
  • Gradebility consider to be 0.
  • Other parameter seen by hiting RUN.

  • Here we can observe every parameter at every time of instant as maximum 4 parameter at a time.
  • Here we can obseve
  1. Speed in Km/h
  2. Vector of SOC
  3. Power loss :- High during acceleration.
  4. motor temperature :- constant after 45 approximatly.
  • Cycle 2 :-

  • Cycle 3 :-

Result:

  • As this we can create up to 3 cycle :-
No. of cycle given 1 2 3
Distance traveled(Km/h) 17.77 35.5 41.4
  • Maximum distance traveled by the vehicle is 41.4 km. At 500 kg cargo mass and FTP Drive Cycle.
  • The distance traveled by the vehicle is depends on the capacity of the energy which is provided by the battery in this model.
  • So by changing the battery capacity we might be get distance traveled =45 km.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

  • As we try to build 4th cycle at default battery capacity we get maximum distace as 41.4km.
  • It is same as of 3rd cycle.
  • So we increase battery capacity by 1.
  • That is from 25 to 26 so we get updated total distance traveled.

As we see by changing battery capacity from 25 to 26 we get 42.7km total distance traveled by the vehicle.

So by checking values at battery capacity 28 we get defined output as 45km of total traveling distance. as shown bellow

Result:

  • As we increase the power of battery to 28 and apply 4th cycle we get the maximum traveling distance as 46.3 Km and our required traveling distance is 45 Km.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file and Compare your results in table and conclude.

This is a hybrid vehicle Work on IC engine and motor.

Gradebility test is performed by increasing speed for perticular instant of time.

Result:

Speed (m/h) Speed (Km/h) Gradebility (%) Duration (Sec)
5 8 28.8 20
10 16.1 27.5 20
20 32.2 18.6 20
30 48.3 14.5 20
40 64.4 11.9 20
50 80.5 10.1 20
60 96.6 8.6 20
70 112.7 6.7 20
80 128.7 5 20
90 144.8 3.4 20
100 160.9 2 20
110 177 0 20

CONCLUSION:

  • By providing proper input in the model by selecting gradebility test we get the gradebility at perticular speed of the vehicle.
  • As above the random speed value is given for 20 sec of time duration.
  • We studied that as speed increases gradebility goes ob decreases. At minimum considering speed 8 Km/h gradebility is 28.8% and at maximum speed 177 Km/h the gradebility is 0%.
