AIM - Use ADVISOR tool and simulate the following
- For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
- In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
- Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in a table and conclude.
SOFTWARE REQUIRED-
ADVISOR TOOL - Advanced Vehicle Simulator is a set of model, data, and script text files for use with Matlab and Simulink. It is designed for analysis of the performance and fuel economy of conventional, electric, and hybrid vehicles.
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
- Open advisor tool by typing advisor in the command window.
- As per given condition, change Cargo weight from 136kg to 500kg.
- other default parameters remain the same, the battery is ESS_PB25 which is a lead-acid battery with 25 modules and 308 v nominal voltage and has AC induction motor, It has a manual transmission.
- Then to proceed to the next step, click continue.
- As per given condition, Select the drive cycle as CYC_FTP and click Run to get the results.
- From the above results, we can see that soc as not reached 0. for 1 cycle of CYC_FTP driving cycle this vehicle can travel 17.8km, let's increase the no of driving cycle to 3 to calculate the range of the vehicle.
- From the above results, the soc has reached 0 and the vehicle with 500kg cargo weight can travel 41.4km in a single charge.
- But when the cargo weight is set to default weight as 136kg, the vehicle can travel a distance of 48.2.
RESULT -
- From the above observations, we can say that the above vehicle with cargo weight as 500kg cannot travel 45km.
- Therefore the cargo weight of the vehicle also plays a vital role in mileage of the vehicle.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
- As per the question, by changing the battery module from 25 modules to 30 modules. the v nominal voltage increases from 308V to 370V.
- Click continue to proceed to the next step.
- After increasing the no of driving cycle to 3 and increasing the battery module from 25 to 30, This vehicle can travel 49.1 km in a single charge.
RESULT -
- From the above observation, we can say that as the battery capacity of the vehicle increases mileage increases.
3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in a table and conclude.
- Open advisor tool by typing advisor in the command window.
- As per given condition, select prius_jpn_defaults.
- Click continue to proceed.
- Now select the gradability check box and open the grade options and the default speed is given as 55mph.
- click run to get the gradability results.
- from the above results, we can see that gradability at 55mph is 1.7%.
- Now change the speed from 55mph to 65mph.
- then we can see that gradability at 65mph is 1.2%.
- then changing the speed from 65mph to 75mph.
- from the above results, we can see that gradability at 75mph is 0.7%.
- Finally changing the speed from 75mph to 85mph.
- From the above results, we can see that gradability at 85mph is not available which means gradability went beyond the limit.
GRADABILITY TEST-
| SPEED (MPH) |
GRADABILITY (%)
|
| 55 |
1.7 |
| 65 |
1.2 |
| 75 |
0.2 |
| 85 |
N/A (BEYOND LIMIT) |
RESULTS-
From the above results, we say that as the speed increases gradability decreases. gradability at 85mph is not available because it went beyond limit therefore maximum gradability of this vehicle is achieved at speed less than 85mph.
