Underbody Coating

UNDERBODY COATING :

Underbody coating is a type of coating which is done on the undercarriage of a vehicle to prevent the formation of rust and corrosion, which is caused by sand and other particles. This coating also has a dampening effect on the underbody of the vehicle. This coating usually wears out after some time, so periodic checking and recoating are a must.

Pros of Underbody coating:

1) It reduces or prevents the formation of rust on the underbody.

2) Thick undercoating can prevent noises inside the cabin due to the rattling of stones.

3) It also acts as a reinforcement.

Cons of Underbody coating:

There are no serious cons to underbody coating, except the fact that it can't be applied to areas that have rust. The part which is rusted should be removed first to get coated, which can be expensive.

TYPES OF UNDERBODY COATING:

1) Rubberised underbody coating: This is the best type of coating for cars. It also prevents the body from getting scratches and it is easy to apply as well.

2) Wax-based underbody coating: This type of coating usually wears off in months but it's the best against moisture. It's the most affordable option.

3) Asphalt-based underbody coating: This type of coating is usually done on trucks and lorries, this coating also provides greater protection when compared to others. It also provides sound insulation as it contains little amounts of rubber. It usually consumes more time.

4) Polyurethane underbody coating: This coating also helps in the closing of splits and cracks. It provides good protection against corrosion and it also bonds with the metal. Unlike Asphalt based underbody coating paint can be applied over this coating.
