Underbody Coating
UNDERBODY COATING
- What is underbody coating?
- Underbody coating is a coating that provides the long term protection from the corrosion, rusting to the car’s underbody.
- Not only the underbody but it also protects the internal parts of the automotive like the internal body panels, frames and other inner parts that are not accessible but can corrode.

The above given image is of the underbody coating.
- How is the underbody coating done?
- Basically the material used for coating is dense in nature and is mostly a rubber based material. It is normally painted or sprayed on to the underbody of the automotive.
- What are the types of undercoating?
- Rubberized underbody coating: This coating is considered to be the best coating as it prevents the body for long time from the corrosion as well as from scratches.

- Wax based underbody coating: This is also the best coating, it may wear out in few months, but its protection from moisture is its best quality and is affordable.

- Asphalt based underbody coating: This type of the coating is mostly preferred for the heavy vehicles like lorries, trucks as it provides the best protection then as compared to the rubber based coating. Here the rubber material is also added to provide sound insulation. It is time consuming process.

- Polyurethane underbody coating: This coating provides the coat to the fractures i.e it closes the fractures, small gaps on the underbody of the vehicle.

- Pros:
- It provides layer of protection against corrosion
- It will extend the life of your vehicle
- Provides sound insulation
- It can be applied to the damage areas
- Cons:
- It does not work if corrosion is already present
- Third party undercoating may void the warranty of the vehicle
- It must be reapplied every 3-5 years for best results
- It adds weight to the vehicle
