Underbody Coating
Under-body Coating:-
Under-body Coating is a process of providing a protection layer to the car under body which helps it from early corrosion. It provides a long term protection from corrosion. It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails, and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corossion.
It is also called as Underseal which is a thick resilient coating applied to underbody or chassis of an automobile to protect against impact damage from small stones which would rapidly chip ordinary paint, allowing rusting to begin.
In india the coating provided by the company is 3M which has a thick, rubberized paint that form 2-3 mm thick coating all along the underside of the car when sprayed on.
Benefits of doing Under-body Coating is:-
- It minimize the sound from underneath the car resulting a noiseless, smooth driving experience.
- It insulates the interior of the car from extreme temperatures from beneath the vehicle providing a comfortable cabin experience.
- If any stone hits the coating it does not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from exposure to water.
- Easy Maintenance
- While applying Underbody coating make sure that it wont harm mechanical parts.
Different types of Vehicle Undercoating are:-
Rubberized Undercoating:- Rubberized vehicle undercoating is easy to apply and offers sound-cushioning as well as protection from dust, moisture and dents. It is also safer to use on wheels and quarter panel and dries to a soft rubbery finish that prevents further rust, damage.

Polyurethane Undercoating:- It is also a type of undercoating which is a little bit quicker and easier to apply. This type of sealant works by seeping into all cracks and seams, displacing salt and moisture and oozing around rusty areas to bond with and protect unoxidised metal.

Wax or paraffin based Undercoating:- A Paraffin based undercoating will be the quickest and cheapest option available with which to protect the undercarriage of your vehicle. It will wear off quicker than other types of undercoating and will need to be stripped and reapplied at least once every year.

Asphalt based Undercoating:- For large trucks and Heavy machinery, Asphalt based undercoating providesa bit of extra durability against rocks, chips and moisture. It contains little bit of rubberized material that sets up firmly and also needs more cure time then the other three and is not paintable, making it best to only use for undercarriages.
