UNDER-BODY COATING
It is a process of protecting the undercarriage of an automobile from the damages caused by environment conditions by coating a dense cladding(rubber)uniformly to the body is called under-body coating. This will also protects the car body from Dirt,,rust,corrosions etc..This coating also protects the parts which are over the undercarriage like axle,transmission shafts,internal body panels,frame rails from corrosion.
TYPES OF UNDERBODY COATING
- Rubberized underbody coating
- Polyurethene underbody coating
- Wax or paraffin based underbody coating
- Asphalt based underbody coating
Rubberized underbody coating:This coating process is very easy to apply and gives protection from dust,moisture,scracthes.This coating method consists of a tar like substance which is sprayed over the undercarriage of an automobile. This coating or spray sticks to any surface it is sprayed on and forms a protective coating.This caoting can easily be removed by using an underbody removal spray.This is the best underbody coating used mostly.
Polyurethene underbody coating:This coating process is also easy to apply over the vehicle.The method works by closing up the cracks,fractures and spilts on the underbody or the undercarriage of the vehicle and the body can be painted over the coating also.
Wax or paraffin based underbody coating:It is the cheapest coating process.It needs to coated atleat once a year since the coating doesnot lasts long when compared with other coating methods.
Asphalt based underbody coating:This coating process is the best option for heavy vehicles like lorries,trucks,buses since this coating provides extra durability against the rocks,stones,mositure.
PURPOSE:The main purpose of underbody coating is to prevent rust and corrosion to the body the vehicle.THe internal parts of the vehicle can also be protected from corosion since most of the vehicle components are made of iron and reduces the wear and tear of the metal parts.
pros:
- Fights against rust adn corrosion.
- Protects the under carriage of the vehicle.
- The lifespan of the car can also increases.
- It reduces the road noise entering into the car cabin.
Cons:
- If the corrosion is already present in the car,underbody cating costs high since the corrosion is to be remoed first and then we need to apply coating.
- The weight of the vehicles gets increased since we applied a coating layer over the vehicle.
- Some of the coating methods need to be applied regularly once a year .
- Maintanence cost is high
