Section Modulus calculation and optimization
Section Modulus
which is one of the processes to calculate the initial stage of deformation of the product, in this challenge I take the reference of the designed hood and increase its sectional modulus
section modulus
S=I/Y
S= section modulus
I=moment of inertia
Y=distance between the neutral axis and extreme point

Section of hood |
Y=440.4041 mm I= 1.994*10^6mm^4 S= 4,527.6599 mm^3 |
Section modulus of the designed hood has been calculated |
|
0.5mm distance increase between the inner and outer panel |
Y=440.541 mm I=2.106*10^6 mm^4 S= 4,780.4858 mm^3 |
Increasing the distance between panels will increase section modulus slightly |
|
Emboss length is increased after a 0.5 mm distance increase between the inner and outer panel |
Y=438.702 mm I=2.672*10^6mm^4 S= 6,090.6948 mm^3 |
Increasing the distance of emboss length will increase section modulus |
section cut used for improvement

the sectional 2D surface created for calculation purpose

Y distance of the section

moment of inertia of the section

Y distance of the section (0.5mm distance increase between the inner and outer panel)
