Hood design-Week 2
Hi colleagues,
I am going to give a report about hood design, latch, reinforcements and manufacturing proces.
First about hood design.
I have opened Hood Outer Panel, that has a reference surface for construction.

Except Hood Outer Panel I have also made assembly – Hood Assembly that consists of Hood Outer Panel,Hood Inner Panel,Striker,Hinge Assembly (mirrored),Reinforcement Hinges and Reinforcement Striker (Latch).

Then I have constructed Hood Inner Panel,as follows.I have made linked face first from Hood Outer Panel as reference for construction.

On the bases of linked face (Hood Outer Panel) I had extracted it,trimed and offseted for 2mm,4mm and 25mm (as required in Mastersection).

Then, afterwards with functions as Offset in Face,Trim Sheet and making Surfaces through curves I have made Surfaces as shown.

Then with comand Law extension I have made surfaces that I have trimmed and blend.I have also sewed those surfaces.

I have planed Emboss on Surface to make as it is given in mastersection and to make a place for latch – striker reinforcement. That is way I made curves with Offset in face function that I had trimmed.

Next step was making place for striker placement, that is why I had done sketch that I have projected and on those basis made another Emboss.

The same way I have done emboss for hinges.
I had done sketch, that I have projected and then made emboss.

Afterwards with a law extension command and projected surfaces I have done feature with openings as shown on image.

Further I have Offseted,Trimmed,Extended and Sewed surfaces to get a Surface as shown.

Extended surface I had trimmed to get a proper surface for mirroring and I have thickened that surface.

I have also done all necessary bends.

Finally I have mirorred thickened body and unified those two bodies.

Now,we are dealing with Hood Outer Panel, there we have Reference Surface as Input.

First,I have trimmed input surface.

Afterwards I have done Bridge Curve and trimmed surface to get rounded edge.

Such surface I have offseted for a 2.5mm and on that surface I have Offseted Curve on face and trimmed it.

Now,I have done Law Extension as shown.

Then I had done hemming on outer panel.Hemming is needed to be done on Hood Outer Panel in order to be able to produce and join Hood Outer Panel and Hood Inner Panel.
To get a hemming on Outer Panel,I had bended those three surfaces.

On those bended surfaces I should make reliefs on edges in order to be able to produce the parts.
I need approximtely 3mm on the edges to be able to manufacture the part during rolling sheets.
So,I have done those relaxings on the corner and upper part of Hood Outer Panel Surface as shown, with approximately 3mm value.

Then I have mirrored those surfaces and sewed it.

Finally I have thickened surfaces to get a Hood Outer Panel as required.

Now in a Hood_assembly assembly I have positioned Hood Outer Panel,Hood Inner Panel, Striker and Hinge_Assembly (that I have mirorred).
I wanted to make reinfocements for Striker and Hinge_Assembly because Hood Outer Panel and Hood Inner Panel have 0.75 thicknes and that is not enough for carry that parts.
That is why I have inserted new parts Reinforcement_hinges and Reinforcement_striker.

Now,first I have made holes in the Hood Inner Panel on the basis of positioned hinges and striker.

First I have done Reinforcement_hinges on the basis of Hood Inner Panell (embosses) and Hinge_Assemblies taking in the account form and holles.
Reinforcement_hinge I have mirrored also.
Thicknes of reinforcements is 1.5mm as requested.

Then on the same way, taking in the accound form of the Striker and Hood Inner Panel I have done latches reinforcement.
Thicknes is also 1.5mm.

Finally I had Hood_Assembly following all rules given in mastersection and in constructing Hood design, including outer and inner panels, latches, hinges and reinforcement.

During Hood design it is very important to take in consideration various tasks and requirements. For example it is very important to place latch correctly, because of latch trajectory. There are various requirements for hood opening in EU,USA or Japan because of different drivers sizes.
By Hood outer panel serves as a metal cover and inner panel as a strength reinforcement,on it are fastened reinforcements, hinges, strikes.Inner panel also has a function for noise and vibration reduction.
That is why,for noise and vibration reduction, between hood outer and inner panel is made mastic seal area. Sealants are applied in approximately 80mm diametar zones.Mastic seals are applied on hood inner panel.

Regarding outer panel,it is important to say something about rolling sheets to make hemming for joining outer and inner panel.

It is needed to make a reliefs by hemming because of manufacturing process.By making hemming we have various rollers that are going approximately 3 times around joining edges of outer and inner panel and to make perfect joining we need relaxing places to acomplish proper material flow of thin metal sheets.
Thank you on attention and your valuable time in reading these article.
