Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Wheel arch area :
- It is a curved part of the fender positioned right above the wheel.
- The wheel arch is designed such that it protects both the pedestrain and car cabin from mud water rocks and other road spray.
- Different countries have different wheel arch regulations in place ,and the wheel arch design has to comply with them to be deemed usable in that country.
- For avoiding design alterations of the same vechile to meet the diffrent regulation in different countries ,the maximum values of cocerened regulation parameters are taken into consideration for design purpose.

- The clearance L should be measured at sections SA- SA , SB-SB,SC-SC, SD-SD ,SE-SE And create clearance check chart to validate .
- At all the five sections the value of L should bee greater than 10mm to satisfy the european regulation.
Wheel guard requirement :
The value of should be more than 5mm at line 30 degree and 50 degree rearwards from the central vertical axis of the wheel.
SKETCH:
:
- Clearance L at SA (L=9.9489mm)

2.Clearance L at SB-SB(L=10.00mm)

3. Clearance L At SC -SC(L=0.113667)

4. CLEARANCE L AT SD-SD(L=2.8814)

5.CLEARANCE 'L' AT SE-SE(L=5.9751)

Measuring the clearance value a for wheel guard requirement
- Clearance 'a' at 30`degree` line SB(A=43.9119)

- CLEARANCE 'a' at 50 degree line SC(A=42.2830)

| SECTION |
Clearance 'L' (IN mm) |
Comments | a(>5mm) | Result |
| SA | 9.9489 | Fail | 43.9119 | PASS |
| SB | 10.00 | Pass | ||
| SC | 0.11366 | Fail | 42.2830 | PASS |
| SD | 2.8814 | Fail | ||
| SE | 5.9751 | Fail |
CONCLUSION: From the above results we can conclude that the fender does not pass the european regulation as the minimum clearance L BETWEEN the fender wheel arch and for vechile and wheel for vechile and pedestrain safety is 10 mm and this design does not meet the requirement.
