Automobile Front Fender Design
Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle, or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other roads spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.
For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
In addition to the fender other components like inner mount, side, and cowl mounts are fastened with the help of well nuts. They provide sufficient protection to the engine room components and suspension etc.,
Thus, the fender stops all the debris from the road throwing into the air. In addition to the fender, Fender skirts are provided to provide better protection.
Fender location on the car
Rear and Front
The full bumper type is the traditional type of fender where more material consumption is observed. This type is used in the old designs of automobiles where it increases the overall weight and thus reduces performance. The maintenance also relatively more due to more surface.
Half bumper type is the modern design where less material consumption is observed, so productivity increases by reducing the size of the blank and thus providing more performance. The maintenance also relatively low compared to the full bumper type.
We are changed from full bumper type to half bumper type to reduce the scrap rate per blank. In the full bumper, we can only produce one Fender per blank, whereas as a half bumper type we can produce 2 fenders per blank.
Fender Class A surface and master section of the Drip area.
Class A surface of fender.
Rules for Drip Area creation
Fender is going to fix on following locations
It is the front portion of the fender where the bumper is mounted with the help of brackets.
Sill mount: It is the front portion of the fender where the bumper is mounted with the help of brackets.
A pillar is a region where the A-pillar of the car is mounted from the front fender. It is located at the top right corner of the fender.
To design and develop drip area and mounting points by following OEM regulations.
Check for the boundaries on the given surface and work on them
After that manipulate the outer surface for mounting points.
First, draw the sketches on the outer surface using (boundary, splines)
After, join the splines and spilt the outer surface of mounting points.
