FENDER DESIGN

AIM:

To Design a front fender from the given skin data and the master section provided with drip mounting, A-piller, Sill, Bumper and Baffle mounts.

INTRODUCTION:

Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well. Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.

Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

Some cars have front fenders that are integrated into the hood of the car, while others have separate fenders that are bolted onto the car's body. Front fenders may also have built-in turn signals, side markers, and other lights that help improve the car's visibility.

DRIP AREA MOUNT:

It is a critical area in a fender mounts, the mount should be created by considering the open hood data and the size of tool fitting in the hood. As per the master sketch we are going to design the drip mount and we will follow the design parameters.

A PILLER MOUNT:

The mount should not have any sharp edges in the design it will create trouble in the production of the parts.

SILL MOUNT:

The edges are extended as per the required measurement of the embosses and cutouts.

BUMPER MOUNT:

The Mount connecting the front fender and the bumper plays an important role in the pedestrian safety, If a crash occurs the fender and bumper are the first to get hit in the accident, which means the fender must be as strong as the bumper but also need to be less in weight not to reduce the performs of the vehicle.

BAFFLE MOUNT:

Fender splash shields are attached inside a fender well, and serve the purpose of preventing debris from entering the engine compartments. Unlike an inner fender liner, splash shields are usually partial cover pieces. As such, a vehicle may be fitted with only one splash shield, or multiple ones that cover different sections of the wheel well.

FINAL COMPONENT:

CONCLUSION:

The front fender was designed using the master section and the skin data provided with Drip mounting, A-piller, Sill, Bumper and Baffle Mounts.
