AIM:
To Create a Column Schedule and Drawing Template using AutoCAD
INTRODUCTION:
AutoCAD offers various tools to perform different tasks. The various tools which are used for drafting in this project are briefly described here. These tools include: - line, annotation objects, annotation scale and texts.
Line
Create a series of contiguous line segments. Each segment is a line object that can be edited separately.
Annotation objects
Annotation objects include dimensions, notes, and other types of explanatory symbols or objects commonly used to add information to your drawing. Annotation objects provide information about a feature, such as the length of a wall, the diameter of a fastener, or a detail callout. Typically, annotation objects are scaled differently than the views of the drawing, and depend on the scale of how they should appear when plotted. We can control the method that an annotation object is scaled by defining the object either as non-annotative or annotative.
Non-annotative objects, require a fixed size or scale that is calculated based on the scale used to plot the drawing.
Annotative objects automatically adjust to display uniformly at the same size or scale regardless of the scale of the view.
Annotation scale
The annotative property is a useful tool for keeping annotation size constant in AutoCAD. Prior to the induction of the annotation scale of AutoCAD, the task of plotting objects with the correct scale for different viewports was a tedious job. One had to make multiple copies of the same object for different scales and the objects were then put on different layers and for each viewport or scale of drawing only appropriate layer was turned on keeping rest of the layers off.
This process results in an unnecessary amount of data in drawing leading to confusion and larger file size and it’s needless to say that it also causes wastage of drafting time. The annotative property took this trouble out of drawing process.
Annotation scaling lets us place Dimensions, Multileaders, Blocks and hatches in Model space, and have them scale to the right size to suit a Paper space Viewport.
Texts
Creates a single-line text object. While we are in the TEXT command: Click elsewhere in a drawing to start a new set of rows of single-line text. Press Tab or Shift+Tab to move forward and back between the sets of single-line text. Press Alt and click a text object to edit a set of text lines.
Single-line Text
For short, simple notes and labels we use single-line text.
Click Home tab>Annotation panel>Single Line Text.
Specify the insertion point.
If you press ENTER, the program inserts the new text immediately below the last text object you created, if any.
Enter a height or click to specify the height of the text.
Note: If a specific text height is set in the current text style, this prompt is skipped.
Enter an angle value or click to specify the rotation angle.
Enter the text.
Note: While typing, the text may be displayed horizontally and at a legible size.
To create another single-line text, do one of the following:
Press ENTER to start another line of text immediately below.
Click a location for the next text object.
Press ENTER on a blank line to end the command.
Multiline Text
For longer notes and labels with internal formatting,we use multiline text.
Click Home tab>Annotation panel>Multiline Text.
Specify opposite corners of a bounding box to define the width of the multiline text object.
If the ribbon is active, the Text Editor contextual tab displays. If the ribbon is not active, the Text Formatting toolbar displays.
Specify the initial formatting.
To indent the first line of each paragraph, drag the first-line indent slider on the ruler. To indent the other lines of each paragraph, drag the hanging indent slider.
To set tabs, click the ruler where you want a tab stop.
To change the current text style, select the desired text style from the drop-down list.
Enter the text.
Note: While typing, the text may be displayed horizontally and at a legible size.
To change individual characters, words, or paragraphs, highlight the text and specify the formatting changes.
To save your changes and exit the editor, use one of the following methods:
On the Text Editor ribbon contextual tab, in the Close panel, click Close Text Editor.
Click OK on the Text Formatting toolbar.
Click in the drawing outside the editor.
Press Ctrl+Enter.
Note: Press Esc to exit the editor without saving your changes.
QNS 1) Create a column schedule as shown in the figure.
Note: Create a column schedule with the help of lines. Also, insert text with the help of Dtext command or Single Line text.
Hint: Use font name: romans.shx; Height: 8”, Justify: Left
Procedure for creating the column schedule is as given below
Type UN and press enter Under Drawing Units, select the desired unit: Engineering
STEP 1) To draw the columns Type Rec or Rectangle in the command line and press Enter. Specify the first corner of the rectangle. Enter D for Dimensions. Enter the length: 9” Enter the width: 24” Specify the other corner. Type O or offset on the command line and press Enter. Specify the value of offset distance:1” Select the rectangle to offset and click inside it. |
![]() |
Turn on ortho mode. Draw a line connecting the centre of rectangles Type DIV and press enter Select the centre line drawn Specify the number of segemnts as 4 and press enter. |
![]() |
Through the divided points draw lines horizontally | ![]() |
Now create an offset of the inside rectangle to .5” A circle of .5” radius is drawn and is now placed at the respective places |
![]() |
Delete the unwanted lines using the trim command and the last made rectangle | ![]() |
Now apply hatch command and select solid to apply to the circles. | ![]() |
Now the naming is completed finally. | ![]() |
In the similar way other 4 columns are created. The basic steps remains the same as above and there is only change in dimensions | ![]() |
STEP 2) Table creation Now using the line command a single column was created based on the question |
![]() |
STEP 3) Desired font creation for text Type ST and press enter to open the text style toolbar. In the font name drop down list select the font romans.shx and set height to 8” and click set current |
![]() |
Type DTEXT and press enter Specify the location to type text Select rotation angle to o degree and start typing |
![]() |
Now the above column is copied and placed 4 times and the above step is repeated. Column scheduling is now completed and the final resultant figure is as given |
![]() |
QNS 2)Create a window schedule as shown in the figures:
Procedure for creating the window schedule is as given below
The main objective of this question is to create a table without using the table command.
In the annotation tab select multiline text. Specify the first and opposite corner and then start typing. Tab key in keyboard can be used for equal spacing of words |
![]() |
Now using the line command boundaries are given to the above window schedule. The final resultant of window schedule which was created using multi line text and line is as shown |
![]() |
QNS 3) Create the drawing template as shown in the figure :< Use the Notes as in the figure>
Procedure for creating the drawing template is as given below
In the annotation tab select multiline text. Specify the first and opposite corner and then start typing. |
![]() |
Now using the line command a boundary was given to it | ![]() |
A table as per question was created using the line and rectangle tools | ![]() |
Now using the MTEXT command the table was filled up and the resultant image of drawing template is as given. | ![]() |
QNS 4) Create the list of drawing schedule as shown in the figure:
Procedure for creating the drawing template is as given below
The main objective of this question is to create a table without using the table command.
Using the line and rectangle command the table was created according to the dimensions | ![]() |
Type DTEXT and press enter Specify the location to type text Select rotation angle to o degree and start typing |
![]() |
Similarly the entire table was filled using the DTEXT and the final result of drawing template is as shown | ![]() |
QNS 5) Create the Beam detail as shown in the figure and provide text wherever given.
According to the dimensions using the line command the following geometry was created. |
![]() |
Type H and press enter Select the closed area which you want to hatch, select the required gradient and click enter |
![]() |
Using line and polar tracking set to 30 degree draw the arrow. Type DTEXT and press enter Specify the location to type text Select rotation angle to o degree and start typing.
The beam detailing is completed and the final drawing is as shown |
![]() |
RESULTS:
Created a Column Schedule and other few Drawing Template using AutoCAD.
