Challenge

Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_5_Odd Shaped Enclosure

ODD SHAPED ENCLOSURE

OBJECTIVE

To model the Odd shaped enclosure using NX software by converting solidbody to sheetmetal.

INTRODUCTION

The sheet metal can be bent, drawn, cut, punched, or stretched. These processes are responsible for forming the metal into a different shape, surface, or size.

Here, By using Siemens NX Software the solidbody is converted into sheetmetal and then the required operations are done.

DESIGN METHODOLOGY

FEATURE SEQUENCE/FLOW

1. Create a Solid Body

2. Convert solidbody into sheetmetal

3. Add sheetmetal features like bend, jog, flange., etc

4. Unbend

5. Add features that are unable to add at bend positon

6. Rebend

7. Create Flat Pattern

8. Make Drawing file.

DESCRIPTION

EXTRUDE

  • It is used to create a solid or sheet body by selecting a section of curves, edges, faces, sketches, or curve features and extending them a linear distance.
  • Application - Modelling - Extrude

SHEETMETAL FROM SOLID

  • It is used to create a sheetmetal from solid model which can be modelled in NX or any other software and imported
  • Menu - Insert - Bend - Sheet metal from solid

FLANGE

  • It creates a single flange instance or multiple instances by selecting a single or multiple base edges.
  • Insert - Bend - Flange

JOG

  • Jog is used to create an offset or a step in a tab. You can use small jogs to provide clearance or rigidity to a part. The section for the jog consist of a single line across a planar face. NX creates the jog by lifting material on one side of the jog line and adding a flange between the two.
  • Menu - Insert - Jog

UNBEND

  • It used to unbend a portion of the part to construct cutout features, hole features, or deform features across a bend.
  • Insert - Form - Unbend

BEAD

  • It used to lift material along the contour of a sketch that simulates a stamping tool. Beads can also be created to stiffen sheet metal parts.
  • Insert - punch - Bead

HOLE

  • It used to add the following types of hole features in a part or assembly:
  • General holes (simple, counterbored, countersunk, or tapered... )
  • Drill Size holes
  •  Screw Clearance holes (simple, counterbored, or countersunk form)
  • Threaded holes
  • Holes on non-planar faces.
  • Insert - Design feature - Hole

REBEND

  • It is used to reverse an unbend operation so that the feature that was unbent returns to its previous bent state. Any features added after the unbend operation are properly repositioned during the rebend operation.
  • Insert - form - rebend

FLAT PATTERN

  • It is used to create a 2D representation of the flattened 3D sheet metal part.
  • Insert - flat pattern - flat pattern

CONCLUSION

Thus the Odd shaped Enclosure using NX software by converting solid into sheetmetal is done. And the results are obtained.
