Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_1_Casing Design

Objective:

  The objective of this tool is to create a sheet metal casing using the Nx cad tool

Introduction:

Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate steel or structural steel

Sheet metal is available in flat pieces or coiled strips. The coils are formed by running a continuous sheet of metal through a roll slitter.

Design Methodology:

Description of tools/features:

1. Tab

          This feature is used to extrude the sketch with the required thickness.

2. Normal Cut

          Creates a cut profile to the tab with the required depth.

3. Bend

       It is created by the single line on the surface with the bend parameters.

4. Flange

    Flange consists of one bend region and one web region with respective of any edges with required length and angle.

5. Bend Corner

     It gives a smooth radius to the sharp edges with the required radius.

6. Unbend

     Unbend is a very important feature. Before creating any feature the model should be unbended for easy understanding.

7. Hole

    For creating a screw type, a screw size hole feature is used.

8. Dimple

      Creating a dent profile on the model is called Dimple.

9. Bead

      Making a dent along the contour hole with respect to the directions required is bead.

10. Mirror

      This feature is used to create a replica of one or more profiles respective to the axis required.

11. Rebend

     Rebending of unbend profile is called rebending.This is done is the final stage of the model.

12. Flat pattern

     This will automatically create a flat surface of the model which helps for manufacturing.

13. Drafting

     To create a 2D sketch of the solid model we use drafting.

Conclusion:

We have designed sheet metal casing using Nx cad and by designing this I have learned some basic commands in sheet metal
