What will you do in this project?

  • In this project, you first start with getting the styling data and then fix the surface if any geometry cleanup required
  • Then according to the master section provided and by following the parameters for designing roof you will create the front, side, and the rear flange of the roof outer panel
  • After completing the roof outer panel design you will start with creating the respective roof rails in the front and rear section of the roof by simultaneously analyzing the manufacturability of each part
  • Now by assuming the approximate positions of the center roof rail. you will model the bow roof rails. While designing the blow roofs of the component you will learn how these component are joined to the roof outer panel and the side body of the car
  • The next step will be assembling all the components together and then performing respective calculations for curvature study and to finalizing the positions of the bow roof.

Modeling the automotive roof design

In this project, you will be designing all BiW components of the automotive roof. The major focus of the overall design will in the engineering behind each feature you make on the components, their positions, and most importantly their manufacturability. This project is one of the engineering design projects where only the knowledge of the CAD tool is not enough. You need to understand the function of each and every component you design. Each and every feature you design should have an engineering reason behind it which helps the overall design of the car whether it is for safety or strength or any other parameter.
