An Overview of the Hybrid Electric Vehicles and Its Job Market for Freshers (Part 1)

logo

Skill-Lync

It is common to find that a majority of engineers remain unemployed. Do you wonder why?

The primary reason for unemployed engineers is the curriculum that relies on defunct technologies.  Hence, 80% of engineers find themselves unemployed because of this outdated education and obsolete courses.

Furthermore, the steep downturn of the economic conditions worldwide is guilty of robbing people of their jobs. However, that should not be a matter of concern if your portfolio consists of contemporary technological knowledge.

If you are an engineer looking for prospective courses that can help you sail smoothly even through a period of recession, learn more about the domain of hybrid electric vehicles and its job market. Before we take a look at the HEV market, it's imperative to understand how industries react during a recession.

Recession, Industries, and You

Automobile experts and economists believe that the current pandemic situation has adversely affected the automotive companies, such as Ford, Toyota, and others. The bad news is that the automotive industries are downsizing the workforce or restoring unpaid leave.

But 2020 graduates won't remain unemployed in the automotive domain when they graduate. Companies cut down their expenditure during the recession period by eliminating expensive resources. Thus, the recession phase predominantly affects those who draw a higher pay package and are not an indispensable part of the company.

In order to safeguard their monetary interest at the time of recession, organizations typically replaces higher salary staff with low salary freshers. They generally hire 2-3 freshers that fit the salary of one employee, for instance, someone who got paid INR 12 lakh per annum would be replaced with freshers in the range of INR 3-3.5 lakh per annum. The combined input and efficiency of 3 people will be higher than the one individual.

However, the company's prerequisites ensure that the fresher is highly-skilled in the concerned domain and matches the capability of an experienced individual to mitigate the training cost. The candidate must possess knowledge pertaining to the existing and current product development cycle.

The current technological skills act as the base knowledge for further growth. A new version of product development can sprout from the existing knowledge.

Product Development Cycle and You

There are three aspects of the product development cycle – design, analysis, and testing. Aerospace, mechanical, or automotive engineers can tap into opportunities if their fundamental concepts in the above three aspects are solid.

You can assess your capability and interest based on the following parameters.

1. Designing

A product is designed with your expert skills and concept of the existing version. If you have a knack for becoming a design engineer, you will primarily find that theory and practical assignments related to engineering graphics and machine elements come to you naturally. Nonetheless, a design engineer should also have mastery of how to use specialized design tools.

2. Analysis

After designing the product, one needs to perform a computational fluid, multi-body dynamic, or vehicle architectural analysis. All these analyses are a prime component of the automotive vehicle development domain. You can fit into the domain of an analyst if you have excellent command over physics and mathematics.

Here's a break down of the types of analysis you can pursue based on the subjects you like or excel at in college:

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis is based on fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
  • Structural analysis involves Finite Element Analysis (FEA), the strength of materials, and solid mechanics.
  • Multi-body or vehicle dynamics analysis revolves around robotics, kinematics, and mechatronics.

3. Testing

The third and final stage of skill is prototype testing, which assesses the feasible execution of a design structure during the development cycle. A test engineer needs to be a champion in data acquisition, sampling signals, digital numeric values, and mechanical engineering fundamentals. It includes knowledge of vibration, fluid mechanics, angular material, and so on.

Know Your Tools

Proficiency in the following software programs will keep you ahead of the curve during the recession. However, note that simply knowing the software is not enough: you must have a strong foundation in the theoretical concepts behind the tools as well.

  • Design Engineer: Solidworks, NX CAD, CATIA
  • CAE Engineer: Solidworks, ANSYS Workbench, HyperMesh, ANSA,  LS-DYNA, NASTRAN, Abaqus, Python
  • CFD Engineer: Solidworks, ANSYS Fluent, HyperMesh, Converge CFD, GT-Power, OpenFoam, MATLAB, Python
  • Vehicle Dynamics Engineer: Solidworks, MATLAB, Python, Motionview, Motion Solve

Job Prospects in India and Abroad

Industry experts suggest that the transition towards a full-fledged electric vehicle will require 10 years, at least. Hybrid Electric Vehicles are a happy medium for now: they are a combination of IC engines and electric vehicles.

Though electric vehicles are not primarily manufactured in India, they could find jobs as CAE, CFD or FEA design engineers. The technology is integrated with the CFD aspect. However, the electric vehicle domain is the future of the automotive world.

All automotive industries are slowly integrating the existing architecture with the new technology. Companies like Tata Motors, Bosch, and others are entering the EV market and innovating. Students with the aspiration to work abroad or in India could meet with success after completion of a hybrid electric vehicles program with Skill-Lync.

An Overview of Skill-Lync's Course on HEV

The HEV course structure is in line with the industrial requirements. Semester 1 covers the five fundamentals required to successfully enter into the EV market:

  • Matlab for Mechanical Engineering
  • Introduction to HEV using MATLAB and Simulink
  • Introduction to Control of Electric Vehicles
  • Introduction to Battery Technology using MATLAB and Simulink
  • Introduction to Matlab and Simulink for ADAS features

In semester 2, students pick a specialization and work on specific projects in these domains. Skill-Lync has split this course into various levels to match the expertise of engineers looking to upskill in HEV.

  • CFD Track
  • FEA Track
  • Design Track
  • MBD Track

How Skill-Lync Can Help You Break Into the HEV Market

Skill-Lync offers all the courses that are based on theoretical and practical knowledge. Since these courses are in-built real-time projects, it enables the students to understand the engineering principles behind any particular domain.

Enrolling in Skill-Lync gives you the advantage of working on industry-oriented projects, which is not available in any engineering colleges. Each project in your portfolio explains your detailed application-based knowledge that you have accumulated beyond your engineering degree.

Currently, Skill-Lync is mentoring more than four thousand students for over fifty courses and has conducted more than six thousand projects. Skill-Lync's success story speaks volumes with more than one hundred placement companies associated with the institute.

Sum Up

Graduating with a Post graduate degree undoubtedly gives you an edge over others. However, a specialized skill will allow you to seize the opportunity to work in a reputed firm.

During the downturn, companies seek to reduce training costs and expensive human resources. Working on multiple industry-oriented projects will enhance your chance of getting an appointment letter. Furthermore, your portfolio of projects showcases your expertise skills and builds your career prospect.
