Wiring harness routing & packaging Rules Week 3 Challenge

WIRING HARNESS DESIGN

CHALLENGE 2

Objective:

            Define all the given components electrically and prepare the Corrugated tubes and create the catalogue document for the same.

Summary:

In the automotive industry, for example, a car's wiring harness includes all the wires and connectors necessary to connect various electrical components like the engine, transmission, lights, sensors, and infotainment systems. This helps simplify the assembly process during vehicle manufacturing and aids in troubleshooting and repair.

Overall, wiring harnesses play a crucial role in ensuring the reliable and efficient transmission of electrical signals and power in a wide range of applications, contributing to the safety and functionality of complex electrical systems.

Wiring Harness Design:

A wiring harness is a set of wires, connectors and terminals that are bundled together to transmits electrical signals and power within a vehicle or other electrical or electronic system. Wiring harness serve several important functions.

Q1. Download following cad data & define it as Electrical support using Electrical Part design Workbench. Define all the necessary properties.

Clip Definition:

PROCESS:

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Create a points at two side of a P-Clamp.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Create a planes at both sides of P-Clamp using points.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Create a base plane for the support.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Switch to the electrical part workbench.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Select the “define support part” option – select part – select first entry point - select entry plane – select exit plane and then select base plane.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->For any clips having two entry and two exits in wiring harness so repeat the process again.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Select the “define support part” option – select part – select other entry point - select entry plane – this time secondary plane taken automatically and then select base plane.

Q2. Download following Back shell cad data & define it as Electrical back shell using Electrical Part design Workbench. Define all the necessary properties.

BACK SHELL:

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Back shell are plastic moulded parts used at wire entry side of connectors either for protection or to improve aesthetics/appearance of harness.

Define back shell electrically:

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->Download the part from the given link and open it on CATIA workbench.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->Create a point for back shell connector connection and create an axis system for the same and the direction of y – axis is normal to the contact face.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->Switch to the electrical part workbench and define it as back shell support.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·        <!--[endif]-->Again define it as back shell connector connection point and bundle connection point.

Q3. Create Following Corrugated tubes & Add them in Catalogue under “Slit COT” family.

For creating Corrugated tubes:

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Open electrical part workbench.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Select define protection point and click on the part file on the specification tree.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Provide a parameters for attaining the given values

Creation of Catalogue:

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Create a new part of catalogue document - add family – give the name slit COT – Select below as CONDUIT – save the file.

<!-- [if !supportLists]-->·       <!--[endif]-->Save all the all the created Corrugated tubes in the created catalogue document by adding slit cot family.
