Challenge

Wiring harness routing & packaging Rules Week 3 Challenge

Aim:-

  • To solve the above challenge question and define the necessary electrical properties in the respective workbench.

Objective:-

  • To download the P clamp and define it as electrical support in the electrical part design workbench and also define the necessary electrical properties.
  • To download the Backshell and define it as electrical Backshell in the electrical part design workbench and also define the necessary electrical properties.
  • To create the following corrugated tubes and add them to the catalog under the "SlitCot" family.

P-clamp:-

  • P-Clamps provide a light, fast, and efficient harness solution to cable mounting. Faster install times and lighter weight give TE P-Clamps a lower applied cost than standard P-Clamps.
  • P-Clamp enables next-generation assembly, quick installation, and a flexible and ergonomic design
  • p-Clamp is used in military, aerospace, marine, and industrial application.

Backshell:-

  • A backshell is an accessory that mounts to rear threads of the connector to enhance its operational characteristics. The primary function of the backshell is to provide strain relief, which minimizes stress from the cable, on the junction where the wires terminate the contact.
  • Backshell comes in a variety of finishes, materials, and finishes. And to provide simple cable management, most backshells may be ordered in 90 & 180 angles.

Step to develop backshell connection points:

  1. Download backshell from te.com.
  2. Create a point and axis at the bundle entry point.
  3. X, Y, Z axis:-Left to right connection, Connection of mating direction, locking direction.
  4. Define Bundle connector connection point.
  5. Define Bundle connection point.

Corrugated tubes:-

  • Corrugated tubes are used for insulating and covering purposes for the wire bundle from any type of damage.

Step to develop Corrugated tubes:

  1. Create a new part in the electrical part design
  2. Select 'Define Protection part'.
  3. select the axis system.
  4. Gives inner diameter, outer diameter, thickness, bend radius.
  5. Created catalog for corrugated tubes.
  6. Repeat the same procedure for creating all corrugated tubes.

1. 15mm cot tube

2. 20mm cot tube

3. 35mm cot tube

4. 10mm cot tube

5. 5mm cot tube

Conclusion:-

  • P clamp, backshell, corrugated tube are defined electrically in CATIA V5 software and stored in the respective catalogue.
