Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 4 Challenge

Wiring harness design in CATIA V5

Objective:

1) Download connector 3D data from www.te.com

  • DT06-4S
  • DT06-6S
  • DT06-2S
  • DT06-08SA

2) Route the following harness layout in the Electrical workbench. Make assumptions for harness bundle diameters. Use the following connectors as shown in the layout diagram. Add protective covering on all branches connected to DT06-2S & DT06-4S connectors. Keep the end extremity at 30mm (from the end of the connector).

Given Layout:

Procedure:

Give the Electrical properties to the downloaded connectors:

1) DT06-2S:

Create a point on the mating surface.

Create a point at the back as the bundle entry point.

Create an axis on the point.

Define the part as a connector with 2 terminations.

Define Bundle Connection Point.

Define Connector Connection Point.

2) DT06-6S:

Create a point on the mating surface.

Create a point at the back as the bundle entry point.

Create an axis on the point.

Define the part as a connector with 6 terminations.

Define Bundle Connection Point.

Define Connector Connection Point.

3) DT06-08SA:

Create a point on the mating surface.

Create a point at the back as the bundle entry point.

Create an axis on the point.

Define the part as a connector with 8 terminations.

Define Bundle Connection Point.

Define Connector Connection Point.

4) DT06-4S:

Create a point on the mating surface.

Create a point at the back as the bundle entry point.

Create an axis on the point.

Define the part as a connector with 4 terminations.

Define Bundle Connection Point.

Define Connector Connection Point.

Save the above connectors in the Connector Catalog:

Given Layout:

Open all the connectors and sketch in a new product file:

File>>New>>Product

Use 'Catalog Brower' to open the connectors

or

Copy and paste / Drag in the saved connector part files.

Use the 'Manipulation' and 'Smart Move' options to align the connectors.

Use 'Multi-branchable Document' option and 'Branch Definition' to start connecting the connectors.

Use 'Add Branch Point' to create branch points.

Use 'Branch Definition' to connect the connectors.

Use 'Branch Definition' to connect the connectors.

Use 'Add Branch Point' to create branch points.

Use 'Branch Definition' to connect the connectors.

Add the protective coverings to the bundles created using 'Protective Covering' option.

Conclusion:

All the necessary properties of Connectors.

Routing is done according to the given harness layout in the Electrical workbench.

The protective covering is added on all branches connected to DT06-2S & DT06-4S connectors keeping the end extremity at 30mm (from the end of the connector).
