Wiring harness design in CATIA V5 - 3D modeling Week 2 Challenge

AIM- Define given connectors & connector clip as Electrical Connectors and add their necessary properties using the Electrical Part design workbench in CATIA V5

OBJECTIVE- The objective of this project is to first, download the given files from TE.com then define them as an electrical connector or equipment and lastly give all the required electrical properties to them using the electrical part design workbench on CATIA V5.

These are the steps required to do this project-

  1. Create the required geometrical parameters for the connector
  2. Create a bundle entry point
  3. If the connector accommodates the clip then define a geometrical parameter for the clip
  4. Define the part as a connector or mounting equipment
  5. Create bundle connection point
  6. Create a connector connection point
  7. Create a cavity connection point if there is a clip

CONTENT-

There are two connectors, one with a clip attachment feature (TYC0 174357-2) and the other one without it (Deutsch-DT06-08SA). The third part is the clip (TYCO 85229-1)

INTRODUCTION TO WIRE HARNESS -

DEFINING ELECTRIC PARAMETER FLOW CHART

CONNECTOR DEFINITION IN CATIA V5-

1. Deutsch DT06 – 08SA

Connector connection point:

Create a midpoint on the contact face which will be normal to wire bundle insertion.

Create Axis System with respect to the point which we have created and define the axis direction as shown below,

Bundle connection point:

Switch to 'Electric Part Design'

Define the part as a connector in CATIA, and give the no. of termination as 8 because we have 8 entry points for wire.

Define Bundle connection point

Define connector connection point

2. Tyco 174357-2 :

  • Create midpoint
  • create a Connector connection point
  • create a Connector connection axis system
  • create a cavity connection point
  • create a cavity connection axis system
  • Switch to an Electric part design and define the part as a connector
  • Define Connector connection point and cavity connection point

3. Tyco 85229-1 :

  • Create midpoint
  • create a cavity connection point
  • create cavity connection axis system and orientation should be the same as in the connector
  • Switch to the Electric part design and define the part as Mounting Equipment
  • Define cavity connection point

Electric Assembly Design

  • Import Connector and cavity/mounting clip.
  • Select Defining Electric connection
  • select cavity and then the connector
