Week 9 - Project - A pillar Design with Master Section

PILLAR DESIGN WITH MASTER SECTION:

The images of the complete part in different orientations are shown below

Tooling axis: -

Tooling axis is created by point-direction method. The reference point is taken on the extract of a face of Class A. The direction of the tooling axis is the y-direction.

For the doghouse, another axis is created for the ejection, this axis is called the side core axis. It has the same function as the tooling axis however, unlike the tooling axis this axis is created after the completion of the part.

Draft analysis of final part: -

The results of the draft analysis show that Class A has draft greater than the upper limit of the draft. Class B has negative draft. The draft of Class C is both negative and positive because it is created with respect to Class A with 90-degree angle and not with respect to the tooling direction.

For the doghouse and Class B, the direction of draft analysis is reversed.

Here from the draft analysis, we can observe that one outer face of the doghouse has positive draft and other two faces have negative draft. This is because the draft of the faces of the doghouse is given according to the direction which is normal to the neutral faces as per the master section. The tooling axis and the normal direction y-direction of the draft are inclined and this condition gives us these results for the draft analysis. The design of the doghouse is acceptable for the explanation given above.

Now, draft analysis of the doghouse has to be done with respect to the side core axis for the ejection of doghouse part.

Seeing the results, we can see that the draft of the inner faces of the doghouse is less than 0.5-degree. For the error, let us check the analysis by slightly lowering the upper limit of the draft.

Here we can observe that the draft angle is 0.48-degree. Thus, it can be concluded that it is a marginal error and the design of the doghouse is valid and correct.
