Week 9 - Parametric study on Gate valve.
Aim: Perform a parametric study of gate valve simulation by varying the valve position.
Gate valve
Gate valve is control device used to control the floe of fluid through a pipe or opening. It controls the flow bt restricting or allowing the portion of flow. There are many kinds of valves in the fluid dynamics study classified on shape, usage and what they control some important ones based on control are pressure control valve, flow control valve. The manually and automated conrol valves are most comly used control valves.
Mass flow rate
Mass flow rate is defined as the amount of the fluid flown per giveb time. It is measured in kg/s. Direct mass flow measurement is very useful improvement in the vast industry as it removes errors caused by physical properties of the fluid. The mass of fluid cumming out of pipe is not affectedby changing temperature and pressure.
It denoted by m and its unit kg/s
Flow coefficient:
Flow coefficient is measure of the capacity or relative efficiency of a valve. it takes into consideration the pressure drop the specific gravity of fluids and floe rates. it is an important parameter in sizing the valve.
flow coefficient denoted by Cv

Flow factor: Fow factor is the same as the flow coefficient the only difference is in the unit. it is in metric units.
Kv=0.865*Cv
Problem solvimg and modelling approach
Geometry setup
Import given gate valve geometry into spaceclaim

Adjust the gate to requred position

Parameter grouping is done to the gate and required position is set from grouping.

Voume extarction
Volume extarction done by selectingedges and extend the fluid volume on both sides with length of 800mm

Fluid volume

The parts other than the fluid volume is supressed for physics

Conclusion
- we observed that the mass flow rate increased with in the lift of gate disk.
- Succesfully performed parametric study on the gate valve simulation by varying valve position and results are tabulated.
