Week 9 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design
AIM:-
- To create the component through the given Class A surface.
- To perform a draft analysis on the completed model.
CAD SOFTWARE USED:-
CATIA V5R20
THEORY:-
CONCEPT OF TOOLING AXIS:
The tooling axis is an axis that helps the manufactuer determine the direction in which the mold will separate from the cavity. It also helps to understand how the created mold will fit on the assembly.
PROCEDURE:-
1) Open the .STP in CATIA V5 Software and fit it on proper;y on the screen.

2) Chech for open boundaries using the Boundary command. We can observe that we do not have any open boundaries.

3) Create the tooling axis using the bisection method with the help of bisecting line.
3)Run the draft analysis using the feature draft analysis command to check the correct value of the draft angle. We can see the part is passing for the 3deg draft angle.

4) Create the B Surface in a new geometrical set.
- We will further divide the geometry in to parts for easy trimming. Namely, side walls, middle slope and base.
- Use the extract, untrim and exrapolate commands respectively to isolate and increase the size of the surface.
- Next, use the offset command to offset the surfaces upto the given thickness of 2.5mm.
- Finally, use the trim command to remove the excess surfaces. Do this for all the geometries.
- Provide the appropirate edge fillets in the end.
B Surface of Side Wall

B Surface of Middle Slope

B Surface of Base

Applying the final trim,

Give proper fillets,

5) Create the C Surface in a new geometrical set.
- Use the Sweep command to create the surface joining both the A and B surface.
- Complete the final trim and join all remaining surfaces.

6) Use Close Surface command in Part design work bench to create the final design

7) Run the final draft analysis.

As we can observe, the part is passing in the draft analysis.
CONCLUSION:-
We have successfully created the closed volume from the given a surface and carried out the draft anaysis for the same. The part is safe for manufacturing.
