Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover

AIM :

To create the tooling axis for the given model and perform Draft analysis.

OBJECTIVE :

  • To make sure that the model meets the requirements of the draft angle.
  • To perform Draft analysis on the given Fan cover model.
  • To create the Tooling axis using bisecting method.

DRAFT ANALYSIS :

  • The Draft analysis is a process through which a user can verify the draft angles, the change in various angles within the surface and also to locate the parting lines which eases the process of Molding.
  • In CATIA, the Draft analysis tool helps the user to quickly obtain the draft angle of various surfaces which indeed eliminates the tedious manual measurements.

  • The Draft angle can be positive, negative and zero.

PROCEDURE :

The various steps involved in the creation of tooling axis and Draft analysis are as follows,

  • Initially the given Class-A surface was imported and checked for any discrepencies in the boundary.
  • Then a point was created using a reference from the given surface followed by the creation of an Axis system.
  • Further a dummy tooling axis was created using the created point as reference.
  • Now using the intersect command on the XZ plane and the model a boundary was created

  • The lines which might cause trouble during the operation were identified and a reference line was created for each of the identified lines.

  • Finally a Tooling axis was created from these two reference lines using Bisecting option for the X direction.
  • The same procedure was followed inorder to obtain another Tooling axis for the Y direction.
  • Thus upon intersection of the axis created for the X and Y axes, the main Tooling axis was created.
  • The Main tooling axis and the Class-A surface were published.

  • Further the Drafting analysis was performed using the Feature Draf Analysis command.
  • Using this command the compass was set on the main tooling axis and the Draft angle was changed to 3 degree.

CONCLUSION :

  • The creation of Tooling axis and Draft analysis were performed.
  • The necessary screenshots and files were attached.
