Week-4 Challenge WOT Condition Part-2

1.

Mapped model:

  • It consists of data that is prebuilt in the lookup table which deals with mapped data or mapped model.
  • Simulation is non-complex and time taken for simulation is also less.

Dynamic model:

  • It takes the real-time data by calculating every component like the movement of vehicle, drag, speed, velocity, wheel braking, etc.
  • Simulation is comparatively complex and takes more time.

Mapped motor:

Dynamic motor:

Mapped generator:

Dynamic generator:

  • To change the model type:
  • Select the model
  • Right click on the model->select variant-> label mode active choice-> chose the model type

2.

  • Miles per gallon(MPG) is the distance travelled in miles by a vehicle per gallon of fuel.
  • 1 Gallon= 3.78 litres
  • For EV, the battery power is converted to gallons using MPG conversion block.
  • For HEV, both the fuel and battery power is converted into gallons.

MPG converter block:

  • The factors considered to model fuel flow are-
  1. Weight of the vehicle
  2. Atmospheric temperature
  3. Driving behavior

3. HEV ReferenceApplication model:

WOT cycle specifications:

  • Case 1: When Grade=0 and Velocity=0

  • Case 2: When Grade=8 and Velocity =10

  • The above two cases are compared.
  • In case 1, it can be seen that when grade and wind velocity is zero, the fuel economy is around 12 MPG.
  • In case 2, when grade= 8 and wind velocity= 10, the fuel economy is around 7.4 MPG.
  • Hence, we can conclude that when there is some grade and wind velocity introduced, the fuel economy decreases.

4.

  • HEV powertrain blockset:

  • EV powertrain blockset:

  • Keeping all other parameters same, hybrid and pure electric powertrains are simulated and results are attained.
  • On comparing the Battery SOC, it can be seen that in pure EV, the SOC of the battery reduces with time since only battery is the supply source for the vehicle. In the case of HEV, both battery and fuel supplies power to the vehicle and hence battery SOC is maintained within a range.
  • On comparing the fuel economy, fuel economy decreases considerably in HEV powertrain. On the other hand, fuel economy remains high in EV powertrain since it runs using only electricity.
