Creating 1D elements with different cross section and DOF
1. Import geometry in Hyperworks
2. Use midsurface command from the geometry tab to create mid surface of the bracket
3. Delete all the surfaces and the gepmetry
4. Here we are left with two components which are further renamed as "Bracket 1" and "Bracket 2".
Here Organise tool was used to collect the midsurface inside the component.
5. Now a new material is created let's say Steel.
6. Now a couple of components were created, like Rod, Beam, Bar, Spring, Rigid and also the properties were created and assigned for the same.
7. Hyperbeam window is opened form the 1D tab and various entities were created such as Box, I-Section, Cross and Spring. They all were created with the specific dimensions provided above in the chellange.
8. It looked something like this when all the entities were created.
9. Now the material and thickness was inserted to the property of the component for "Bracket 1" and "Bracket 2", here i took the thicknedd to be 5mm.
10. For the Bar, Rod, Bea, and Spring, the specific solver card were selected like PROD for Rod, PBEAM for Bean, etc
11. Beam section was then updated for each of the property for the component.
12. Now for each component out there in the list, specific properties were updated.
13. Now comming back to the geometry part, a quick edit of washer split was made for every hole out there of dimension 5mm, the final geometry is going to look something like this
14. Now all the geometry surface was meshed, taking 5mm element size and mixed element type
15. Number of nodes at the hole were increased equal to the number of node at the washer split path
16. Final stage of meshing
17. After meshing the geometry looked something like this
18. Now the RBE2 and RBE3 link with different DOF were created at the centre of the holes by selecting the nodes in the manner depicted below
19. Now the different elements like Rod, Beam, Bar and Spring were created and these newely created elements were organised to the component using the Organise tool, also the mass of magnitude 10 was added at the RBE2 elements connected with the rigid element
20. The final model looked something like this
21. Now the representation was changed from "1D traditional element representation" to "1D detailed element representation"
22. In the detailed view all the elements are visible with the defined colour schemes.
