Geometry cleanup and extracting mid surface of a plastic model
Question
Clean up Geometry of the following component.
Note: For the component below 6mm thickness, extract the mid-surface for meshing. Attach the hypermesh model files (.hm) with the challenge
Your Answers
Objective: Geometry Cleanup of housing
1. Import the geometry into the Hyperworks using the import geometry window.
2. Change the geometry colour mode to Topo
3. Now open the visualisation pannel and inspect the error in the geometry
4. Use quick edit menu to cleanup the geometry
5. Using toggle edge and replace point command for this cleanup
6. Here is missing surface so deleting the surface and crating the new one
7. Use fillet surface command for this surface
Objective: Geometry cleanup of the plastic model and later extraction of midsurface
1. Impot the geometry in the Hyperworks from the Import geometry window
2. Change the geometry colour mode to Topo and open visualisation window
3. Using various tools from the quick edit menu and other features for creating surface, such
errors were easliy resolved
Deleted the surface and created the new one
Deleted the surface and created the new one using the filler surface option
First used the releaase point option then deleted the surfaces with error and then created the
new surface using the ruled option
Deleted the surface and created the new one using the filler surface option
Here is the missing surface
Creating the surface using the ruled option
Note: Here the various lines were toggled which were cless than 1unit apart, distance between
2 points was used to meaasure the distance, hence completing the cleanup process thereafter.
Material and the property were also added into the model.
Objective: Creating midsurface for the same plastic model
Here we used the skin offset option and then auto midsurfacing was done for the whole
geometry at a time
The midsurface thus extracted was manually inspected and then cleaned as sone for the parent
geometry

Plastic: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HVbVy9P-A0a_nHWcgecQMkUrh84SzBYO/view?usp=sharing
Conclusion:
Geomerty cleanup tools were explored and were hands on practiced on the 2 different geomertys
Midsurface was extracted for the same geometry and the cleaup was performed on the same as well.
