Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Aim:- 1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
Introdution ADVISOR Tool:-
ADVISOR tool is a advanced vehicle simulator tool for vehicle analysis.
ADVISOR is a MATLAB/Simulink based simulation program for rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of light and heavy-duty vehicles with conventional (gasoline/diesel), hybrid-electric, full-electric, and fuel cell powertrains. New features are developed under the title "Advanced Vehicle Simulator". Periodically, stable versions of Advanced Vehicle Simulator will be submitted for consideration as the next canonical version of the ADVISOR software.
With the help of this tool we analyze and simulate All types of electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
Procedure:-
- First we open the matlab and change the directory where the advisor files are stored.
- In command window we type the advisor then a GUI window will open.
- Click on start menu after select metric unit.
- After that we select the EV_defaults_in file, then change the cargo load value to 500.

Ater changing the cargo to 500 value click on continue then next window will pop-up here we select the FTP Drive cycle.

In this drive cycle 1 cycle covered total distance of 17.5 km.

Then click on run button to start the simulation.
Results with 1 FTP drive cycle:-

Total km - 17.8
Battery SOC - 60%
Max speed - 92kmph
- Now we add 2 FTP drive cycle to increase travel distance.

Results with 2 FTP drive cycle:-

Total km run - 35.5
Battery SOC - 15%
Max Speed - 92kmph
- Now we 3 FTP drive cycles

Results with 3 FTP drive cycles:-

Total km run - 41.5
Battery SOC - 0%
Max Speed - 85kmph
Conclusion:-
- Vehicle can't run 45km with cargo mass 500 kg.
- Required higher capacity energy storage to run vehicle for 45km with cargo mass 500 kg.
- If we increase energy storage capacity vehicle total mass also will increase.
- As battery SOC decrease vehicle max. speed also decrease.
Aim:- 2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
- Increased battery module from 25 to 28
- We directly test with 3 FTP drive cycle because we know in 1 cycle vehicle can run 17.5km.

Simulation after add 3 battery module with 3 FTP drive cycle

Results after change in battery module:-

Total km run - 46.3
Max speed - 91kmph
Battery SOC - 0%
Conclusion:-
- Vehicle run 46km after increased battery module, simply we can say higher capacity battery pack required to run vehicle 45km.
- After change battery module then vehicle total mass increased.
Aim:- 3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file, Compare your results in table and conclude.
Procedure:-
Load file PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in after start ADVISOR.

Then continue with defaults value and run simulation without gradeability test.

Results without gradeability:-

(A) Gradeability test with 25mph, 40kmph
Results:-

(B) Gradeability test at 60kmph (37mph).

Results:-

(C) Gradeability test at 80kmph (50mph)

Results:-

(D) Gradeability test at 100kmph (62mph)

Results:-

Results Table
| PRIUS_JPN Test Comparison | |||||
| Speed (kmph) | 40 | 60 | 80 | 100 | |
| Gradeability (%) | 16.5 | 12.5 | 9.7 | 7.8 | |
| Fuel consumption (L/100km) | 4.9 | 4.9 | 4.9 | 4.9 | |
| Gasoline equivalent | 4.9 | 4.9 | 4.9 | 4.9 | |
| Distance (Km) | 12 | 12 | 12 | 12 | |
| Emissions (grams/km) | HC | 0.704 | 0.704 | 0.704 | 0.704 |
| CO | 0.791 | 0.791 | 0.791 | 0.791 | |
| Nox | 0.152 | 0.152 | 0.152 | 0.152 | |
| PM | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
Conclusion:-
We performed gradeability test at different speed as shown in above table, the gradeability percentage is decreased as speed increases other all parameters remain same.
