Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

AIM:

TO analyse Electric vehicle and Hybrid Electric vehicle range, Battery Capacity and gradeability using ADVISOR tool.

ADVISOR TOOL:

ADvanced VehIcle SimulatOR, is a set of model, data, and script text files for use with Matlab and Simulink. It is designed for rapid analysis of the performance and fuel economy of conventional, electric, and hybrid vehicles. ADVISOR also provides a backbone for the detailed simulation and analysis of user defined drivetrain components, a starting point of verified vehicle data and algorithms from which to take full advantage of the modeling flexibility of Simulink and analytic power of MATLAB.

Case 1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

EV_defaults_in

The vehicle cargo mass is changed to 500kg

FTP drive cycle

The distance cover in one FTP drive cycle is 17.77km so number of cycle is increased to 3 to cover distance more than 45 km

OUTPUT:

PLot 1 indicate the Three repeating FTP drive cycle against time.

Plot 2 indicate the state of charge which goes to 0 after 5500sec. As the distance covered is 41.4 km thus battery not does not have enough power the complete the whole cycle.

Plot 3 emission of the vehicle which show 0 as it is Electric vehicle

Plot 4 indicate the distance travelled.

Case 2 : In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

In this case the Battery module is increase from 25 to 30 module.

OUTPUT:

By increasing the battery modeule the distance coverd is 49km is more than the previous case. The battery state of charge goes to 0 after 7000sec.

CASE 3: Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in table and conclude.

The Gradeability is used to determine the maximum grade on which the vehicles can move forward.

Gradeablity test is performed at some definite speed to observe the max gradeability at that speed.

Case 1: @ 45 mph for 10sec

Case 2: @ 55 mph for 10sec

Case 3: @ 65 mph for 10sec

As the speed increases the gradeability decreases.
