Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Aim : Use advisor tool and simulate the drive cycle, change the battery capacity and repeat the simulation for the same model, and Pperform gradeability test with PRIUS_jpn_defaults_in file and compare the results in table and conclude.
Advisor(advanced vehicle simulator) is a set of model data and script text files for use with Matlab and simulink. It is designed for the rapid analysis of performance and fuel economy of conventional, electric and hybrid vehicles. Advisor tool also provides a boneback for the detailed simuation and analysis of user defined drive train components.
PART1:For EV_ defaults_in file, If cargo mas is 500kg with all other default conditions, Can the vehicle run for 45km with FTP drive cycle?
Open the advisor tool by typingf advisor in command window and set the load file as EV_defaults_in

Motor controller characterstics

Vehicle characterstics and cargo mass changed to 500kg

FTP drive cycle

The above image shows that the vehicle can travel a distance of 11.04miles that is equal to 17.77km with FTP drive cycle. BUT it has to run for 45km so that it shoud go through 3 drive cycles
Plots after 3FTP drive cycles

- This plot shows drive cycle against time
- From the seconnd plot, it can be observed that charging has dropped to 0 at a time of 5500s even before the completing the defined the DC
- In plot3, emmision is completely 0 and it is a pure electric vehicle
- In the warning/messages it is showing that required distance is exceeded the EV range that means the distance has travelled about 25.7m that is approximately 41km
- The vehicle has failed to travel 45km under FTP drive cycle with a cargo weight of 500kg.
PART2: Change tha battery capacity for EV_defaults__in in the above simulation and check the range
- The number of battery modules has changed from 25 to 32 and the nominal voltage has increased from 308v to 395v
- It has also increases the overall weight of the vehicle

Plots

- The plot shows speed against time
- In the second plot we can observe that battrery charge drops to 0 at 7400s approximately
- Emission is abslutely zero since it is a pure EV vehicle
- The distance travelled is approximately 32.6m that is 52.16km
With the increase of battery modules to 32, the vehicle has travelled more than 45km with a payload of 500kg.
PART3:PRIUS_JPN_defaults_in
- Perform the gradeability test for PRIUS_JPN_DEFAULTS_IN
Vehicle input,Engine characyterstics and Vehicle configuration is given below

- Gradeability test can be performed in 2 methods
- Gradeability @some defined speed,Grade test option available for this
- Gradeability with constant grade under any drive cycle
- Change the grade parameters as required in grade options
case1: 50mph in 60s

The gradeability is 9.1% at a speed of 50mph
case2:60mph in 60s

The gradeability is 8.1% at a speed of 60mph
case3: 70mph in 60s

The gradeability is 6% at a speed of 70mph
The gradeability test fail when the gradeability is more than the maximum gradeability at respective speed
Conclusion
| Speed(mph) | Gradeability(%) |
| 50 | 9.1 |
| 60 | 8.1 |
| 70 | 6 |
At certain grade, the vehicle speed decreases upto acertain point and then reaches the steady state as observed from the first plot
