Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
AIM:
- For the EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with an FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
- In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
- Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in a table and conclude.
Solution:
Case 1: here we are asked to use the advisor tool and simulate the EV_default_in file. Type the advisor in the commend window gets us the advisor tool. The unit system is set to a ‘metric’ system.

Image shows the image of the advisor GUI with the required file EV_default_in loaded in it. And the cargo mass set to 500kg
About the image shows we are asked about the cycle. Here we enter it as FTP cycle because we are asked to do that as an objective. Then on running the simulation with drive cycle as 1 we get the following result:

It can be seen that when the drive cycle is 1, we get the distance traveled as 17.8 km. now we go back to change the drive cycle to 2, and on running the simulation we get the following output
It can be seen that when the drive cycle is 2, we get the distance traveled as 35.5 km. now we go back to change the drive cycle to 3, and on running the simulation we get the following output
Case 2: In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
In a bow the case, the battery capacity is 25 modules. Now the increase the battery modules 30
Drive cycle1

Drive cycle2

Drive cycle3

When the battery has 30 modules then the maximum distance traveled with the given specification will be 49.1km
Drive cycles speed with 25 modules speed with 30 modules
1 17.8 17.8
2 35.5 35.5
3 41.1 49.1
By changing the battery capacity by differing the number of modules we get much more distance traveled with the same weight and specification. So increace the battery capacity can be increase distance coverage
Case 3: Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in the table and conclude.
We are asked to load the PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file in advisor tool.

On running this with the drive cycle selected as UDDS, we get the following result

Now we select the gradeability test toggle box, changing speed in mph from default value to 50mph, duration as 10 sec
Speed is 50mph
Duration:10 sec

Speed is 40mph
Duration:10 sec

Now speed is 30mph
Duration :10 sec

s.no speed in mph gradeability in %
1 50 2
2 40 2.5
3 30 2.5
So we can see here that as speed decreases the gradeability of the vehicles is to be an increase
