Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

Challenge 1-

the ADVISOR (ADvance Vehicle SimulatOR) is a anlysis tool develop by National Laboratory for Renewable Energy and Dept of Energy USA. its develop in between 1994-2004, but its really useful even now. The model is made through experimental data on the real companents and fed in matlab trough lookup tables. here we can analyse and modify the operating parameter in order to analyse the results like speed energy emissions etc.

Here we take the example of default model saved in Advisor, i.e. EV_defaults_in, availabe in the model itself, The gui of the model looks like.....

here we run the simulation with defaults values and take 136kg cargo and FTP driving cycle...

here we can see the vehicle perfectly follow the FTP driving cycle and use almost 70% battery after comleting 2 FTP cycle succesfully. and the vehicle runs 35.5km of distance.

now we modify the cargo weight 500kg cargo and re-run the simulation as keeping all the values constant.

here we can see the vehicle runs for 90km Max and uses more than 80% of the battery for same 2 cycle of the FTP driving cycle. THe vehicle runs almost same as the Driving cycle data.

Challenge 2-

Now we Change The vehicle battery parameter as 267V nominal voltage and 25 no of mods(ESS_LI7_temp) lithium battery, before it was lead acid battery with 367V nominal battery. and we run the simulation for 500kg cargo weight and for 2 cycles of FTP driving cycle.

Now run the simulation for the above parameters.

here we can see the vehicle discharged fully before completing the one cycle of the FTP and the secound cycle doesnot run so The vehicle runs for only 11.2km and discharged fully so we cannot take range of the vehicle above11km for the above configuration.

Challenge 3-

In this challenge we perform a gradability test on toyota prius model as taking all the parameters as defaults....

The defaults values are shown above and we run the model for 0% gradebility and view the results as shown below...

THe vehicle runs for one cycle of FTP driving cycle and it runs for 17.8km with gasoline equivalent of 5. further we look at the vehicle speed that is identical to the input Driving cycle with almost 55.3% of SOC left (starts with 70% SOC).The engine runs for starting and then motor take the power supply and for higher speed greater than 42kmph the Engine again ignited and also in case of minimum SOC level reaches. here we can conclude from the data, The min SOC level of the vehicle is around 50% .

Now we perform gradeability Test with 5% gradient and take below parameters as consideration....

here are the results...

The vehicle speed correspond to the 5% gradeability is 88.5km/h. Now we test gradeability for different values like 10%, 15%,20% etc. and make a table for The gradeabilty of Toyota prius japan model as.....

S.N. SPEED(km/h)

GRADEABILITY(%)

1. 30 21
2. 45 15.4
3. 80 9.8
4. 100 7.8
5. 120 5.4
6. 150 2.3

The gradeablity at 10km/h is aroud 31% and it specify the model capabilty to carry cargo in the flyover.
