Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool

ADVISOR TOOL:

The ADvanced Vehicle SimulatOR is a pre defined script for matlab to make the simulations of the vehicles with pre defined and user defined parameters obtaining the vehicle performance and the analysis for the given vehicle and ambient conditions.

The script is loaded into the matlab and accessed with the "ADVISOR" in the command window.

1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.

Now for the given conditions with the payload of 500 Kg, the output simulations are obtained as follows,

For the above conditions, increasing the drive cycles the distance covered increases from 11.9 Km to 24 Km with 2 drive cycles.

Then for 3 druve cycles, 36km is attained by the vehicle with 500Kg payload.

Hence, for the given conditions and 500Kg payload the vehicle cannot travel the 45km distance as the soc has reached to almost zero meaning the battery capacity.

2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.

Now, increasing the battery capacity by the modules in it from 25 to 30 we could see the battery potential difference increase with it.

Now, running the simulation again we could see the vehicle covers the 45km distance. Hence we can conclude that for the given vehicle with its sepcifications, the 500kg is above the range to cover the 45km distance.

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file. Compare your results in table and conclude.

Gradeability at 30 mph for 15 seconds duration.

Gradeability at 35 mph for 15 seconds duration.

Gradeability at 40 mph for 15 seconds duration.

Gradeability at 30 mph for 30 seconds duration.

Gradeability at 35 mph for 30 seconds duration.

Gradeability at 40 mph for 30 seconds duration.
