Simulations using ADVISOR Tool in MATLAB
ADVISOR tool in MATLAB is used for simulating the following cases:
TEST CASE 1: Range of an EV for cargo mass 500kg
Vehicle type: EV_defaults_in
Cargo mass: 500kg
other parameters as default:
on simulating for the above vehicle parameters and for FTP cycle,

Since the single-cycle runs for a total of 17.77km, taking 3 number of cycles for a trip of more than 45km
So, for the above vehicle and trip parameters following results were obtained:

As can be seen clearly the distance traveled in the simulation is less than 45 km, so the above battery is not sufficient for such a trip. A related warning is also shown suggesting that the distance exceeds the EV range.
To increase the range of the vehicle, the following vehicle parameters were used for simulation for 3 number of cycles.
Therefore, on changing the battery specifications:

li-ion battery type is used to obtain more power and larger battery capacity. Another advantage of using Li-ion batteries is that it is lighter in weight.
The following results were obtained:

Hence, for the above-used battery specifications, the vehicle is safe to run for a distance of 45km.
TEST CASE 2: Gradeability test on TOYOTA PRIUS using the ADVISOR tool
Vehicle type: PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in
Performing the simulations, the following vehicle parameters were used:

After simulating the vehicle for a single UDDS cycle:
Following results were obtained for the gradeability of the vehicle:
Varying speed and keeping time as constant.
| S. No. | Speed (kmph) | Time (secs) | Gradeability (%) |
| 1. | 16.1 | 20 | 33.7 |
| 2. | 32.2 | 20 | 22.9 |
| 3. | 64.4 | 20 | 14.6 |
| 4. | 96.6 | 20 | 10.6 |
| 5. | 128.7 | 20 | 6.2 |
| 6. | 160.9 | 20 | 2.6 |
Varying time and keeping speed as constant(for the low-speed sample).
| S.No. | Speed (kmph) | Time (secs) | Gradeability (%) |
| 1. | 16.1 | 20 | 33.7 |
| 2. | 16.1 | 40 | 34.3 |
| 3. | 16.1 | 60 | 33.8 |
| 4. | 16.1 | 80 | 34.1 |
| 5. | 16.1 | 100 | 29.4 |
Varying time and keeping speed as constant(for the high-speed sample).
| S.No. | Speed (kmph) | Time (secs) | Gradeability (%) |
| 1. | 160.9 | 20 | 2.6 |
| 2. | 160.9 | 40 | 3.2 |
| 3. | 160.9 | 60 | 3 |
| 4. | 160.9 | 80 | 2.6 |
| 5. | 160.9 | 100 | 2.3 |
From the above results, it can be clearly concluded, that for the given vehicle specifications:
- If the speed is increased the gradeability of the vehicle is decreased
- If the vehicle operates at same speed for a prolonged period of time, gradeability of the vehicle first increases for a very short time and then decreases finally.
