Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Aim:
By using ADVISOR tool, simulate the following
1. For "EV_defaults_in" file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle?
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
3. Perform gradeability test with "PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in" file.
Software used:
- MATLAB R2020a - ADVISOR Tool
1. Simulating for "EV_defaults_in" file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle?
- It is fully electric vehicle.
- Vehicle parameters are:

- Updated the Load file as "EV_defaults_in" file and the cargo mass as 500 kg.

- Initially simulated to one drive cycle.

- Default input Statistics:

Results:
Cycle 1:

- Distance covered for the first drive cycle is 12km

Cycle 2:

- By running the simulation for two drive cycles the Distance is increased to 24km

Cycle 3:

- By running the simulation for three drive cycles the Distance is increased to 36km

Cycle 4:

- By running the simulation for four drive cycles the Distance is increased to 41.5km

- We can't increase more than 4 drive cycles for this perticular model, because the battery get drained off to 41.5km. i.e.; the maximum distance covered by the vehicle is 41.5km.
- So, hence I conclude that for the given parameters to this vehicle, it can't travel to 45km with FTP drive cycle.
2. In the above case, changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
- Increased the no. of battery packs to 30 and the voltage increased to 370 V

- By increasing the no. of battery packs to 30 the vehicle can travel 47.9km `approx`48km.

- Hence by increasing the battery power the vehicle can reach 45km with FTP Drive cycle.
- Hence it is fully Electric vehicle the emission is Zero.
- State of charge or battery power get reduced by increasing the travel distance.
3. Performing gradeability test with "PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in" file.
Gradeability of vehicle can found by vehicle Speed and Grade parameters,
Test 1:
- For the test I have selected "PRIUS_JPN_default_in".
- By keeping all the default vehicle parameters without any change, I have performed Gradeability test.

- Default parameters to perform the gradeability test:

Results:
- Performed test with single Drive cycle.

- Performed test by increasing drive cycle.

- For 88.5kmph the gradeability of vehicle is 1.7%
- Hence I conclude that Change in drive cycle dosen't results in change in Gradeability.
Test 2:
- Increased the Speed to 65mph, by keeping all the default parameters without change.

- For 104.6kmph the gradeability the is 1.2%
- By increasing the vehicle speed the gradeability is decreasing.
Test 3:
- Decreased the Speed to 30mph, by keeping all the default parameters without change.

- For 48.3kmph the gradeability the is 2.5%
- By decreasing the vehicle speed the gradeability is Increased.
Test 3:
- "Grade" parameter is added to test, with the default value of 6.

- Grade value is reduced to 3, with the default speed:

- Grade value is increased to 10, with the default speed:

- Hence, by increasing the Speed the gradeability is decreasing and vive-versa. And there is no effect of gradeability with Grade parameter to this vehicle.
Conclusion:
Hence,
- By using ADVISOR tool, simulated For "EV_defaults_in" file and Performed the gradeability test with "PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in" file.
- For "EV_defaults_in" file the vehicle will reach to 45kmph by increasing the battery power source.
- Gradeability will increase by decreasing the Speed of the vehicle.
