Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
Objective1: To check for EV_defaults_in file, for cargo mass of 500 kg with all other default conditions, whether the vehicle can travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle?
Answer:
The advisor tool GUI can be opened by typing >>advisor command in the command window, after which a GUI opens up. The vehicle type is the default vehicle as shown in the figure below

As per the requirement change the Cargo mass to 500kg and keep all others parameters as default.
Now press the continue button, after which the below GUI will open up

Now selecting FTP drive cycle from the drive cycle drop down bar, and change the no of drive cycles to 2.53 as 1 cycle is corresponding to 11.04 miles or 17.76 km
So 2.53 cycles corresponding to 27.93 miles or 45 km. After that press the RUN button.
Result GUI will pop up as shown below

We can clearly see from the above result that the vehicle is able to cover 25.7 miles or 41.36 km. So the vehicle is not able to travel up to 45 km for given no of battery modules i.e. 25 on a single charge.
Objective2: TO change the battery capacity and repeat the simulation
Answer: We can change the no of battery modules, In the below figure the no of battery modules changed to 50 and the simulation is repeated

Result: For FTP_drive cycle the result is shown below

From which it can be concluded that by increasing the battery capacity the distance covered by the vehicle can be increased, and here the vehicle can travel up to 29.4 or 47 km with soc of about 0.42.
Objective3: To perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file.
Answer: PRIUS vehicle model is selected and the interface is shown below

Default values are selected, and gradeability check box is slected and for different speeds the simulation is carried out.

Results:
- Speed 50mph, gradeability 9.7%

- Speed 45kmph, gradeability 10.7%

- Speed 40 mph, gradeability 11.7%

- Speed 30 mph, gradeability 14.7%
