Week-3 Challenge: ADVISOR Tool
1. For EV_defaults_in file, if cargo mass is 500 kg with all other default conditions, can the vehicle travel for 45 km with FTP drive cycle? Conclude your observations.
To perform the required evaluation, in the Advisor tool,
- we first choose the required vehicle EV_defaults_in for simulation at the 'Load file' option
- then, set the 'Cargo mass' to 500 kg.
The above two steps are shown in the figure shown below.

- To test for 45km of FTP cylce, we set '# of cycles' to 3 as shown below. Reason for this is that, as each FTP cycle 18.35km long, we require 3 cycles to cover 45km.

- The simulation is run and the result is shown in the figure below.

Conclusion -
It is seen that the vehicle is unable to travel this distance, as mentioned in the 'Warnings/Messages' dialogue box. The vehicle is unable to cover this distance as the SOC of the EV is exhausted at around 5500s and the third FTP cycle is not concluded successfully. These oberservations can be made from the figure above.
2. In the above case, try changing the battery capacity and repeat the simulation.
The the battery capacity is altered by using '#of mod' option in the advisor tool as shown in the figure below.

The no. of modules was increased from 30 till 35 by increments of 1. 3 FTP cycles we travelled successfully from the value of 33 onwards. The result for the value of 35 is shown below. It is observed that the SOC is not exhausted at the end of 3 FTP cycles

3. Perform gradeability test with PRIUS_Jpn_defaults_in file
Compare your results in table and conclude.
The gradeability test is carried out by choosing the 'Gradeability Test' option in the Advisor tool. The conditions for testing is set using 'Grade Options' option. Both these steps are done as shown below. The simulation is run.

Results-
The result of the gradeability test is output by Advisor tool as seen below.

The gradeability is evaluated for different speeds and driving modes and the results are tabulated below.
In hybrid mode:
| Speed(mph) | Gradeability(%) |
| 35 | 13 |
| 55 | 8.9 |
| 75 | 5.3 |
Battery disabled:
| Speed(mph) | Gradeability(%) |
| 35 | 2.4 |
| 55 | 1.7 |
| 75 | 0.7 |
Engine disabled:
| Speed(mph) | Gradeability(%) |
| 35 | 13 |
| 55 | 8.9 |
| 75 | 5.3 |
It was seen that using the battery hardly has an impact on improving gradeability.
