Week 11 - Final project
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF CAR INTERIOR DOOR TRIM USING CATIA V5
We are going to design plastic components of door trim from given class a surfaces and referring to the master sections given also adding engineering features to b side of plastic components for attachment.
Given Class A Surfaces:

Check the given class a surfaces for any dis-continuities by using boundary command.
Creation of Tooling Axis for Arm rest:
Main tooling axis:

Side core Tooling axis:

Creation of Class B surface armrest:
Offset class A surface to 2.5mm and make modifications if necessary.

Creation of Class C surface armrest:

Creation of closed body surface arm rest:
Trim class A,B and C surfaces to form a closed surface body.
Create a closed body.

Similarly create closed body parts of Lower and Upper Map pockets,Lower substrate.

Creation of attachment features:
Doghouse:
It is an engineering component built on class b surface used as support to other engineering components like locators, screw bosses, pins etc…
Rules to create Doghouse:

The doghouse is built such that it supports pin on top of it as shown below:

Heat stakes:
Heat stakes are engineering components created on b side of plastic components and are used to join two or more components by melting of heat stakes on flanges of other components. The thickness of heat stakes is 1mm.

On flanges a hole of minimum clearance of 0.5mm is made on opposite counter parts
4 way Locators:
Locators are engineering components created on b side of plastic components and are used for positioning of two or more plastic components on each other.

On opposite counter parts a hole of clearance of approximately 0.1mm is made.
