Week 10 - Challenge 2- Attachment Feature Creation (Dog House)
DOG HOUSE DESIGN
Objective:
1. Create the Dog House as per given Inputs.
2. Create the Main Tooling Axis and Side Core Tooling Axis.
3. Perform the Draft Analysis on Class-A Surface and Final component model.
Software Used:
CATIA V5.
DOOR TRIM : CLASS A SURFACE

TOOLING AXIS
Tooling axis: The direction in which the mold or core and cavity opens is the tooling axis.

Steps to Create a Tooling Axis :
1. First, Create a Referene Point for tooling axis on Class A Surface where the most surface is exposed to mold or core direction.

2. Then, Create a Tooling Axis by selecting a Reference Point and Choosing Y-Direction as most of the surface exposed to mold or core direction.

DRAFT ANALYSIS
Draft : The purpose of providing angles or tapered face by draft is to remove the part from the mould with ease so that it is parallel to the direction of mould release.
DRAFT ANALYSIS : CLASS A SURFACE

DRAFT ANALYSIS : FINAL COMPONENT

Note : Draft Given to a Dog House is 1.5mm to main tooling axis, hence its pass draft analysis at 1.49mm.
DRAFT ANALYSIS : CLASS-C SURFACE

Note : As Draft for class C suface given in core it pass draft analysis in core direction.
Steps for Draft Analysis :
1. First go to the surface tab bar then click on Insert -> Analysis -> Fetaure Draft Analysis.

2. Then go to Customize View Parameters and check whether the material box under mesh is ticked or not. If not ticked click on the box and tick it for draft analysis.

3. Then, ensure in Draft Analysis Box, Mode is swicted to Quick analysis mode, Color scale Display should be on, select the compass to define the direction.

4. Drag the compass on the tooling axis for Draft Analysis then select the surafce or body to be draft analysed.

Note : Under Draft Analysis Color Display Dialog Box double click on the parameter tab and input the desired angle on which draft analysis to be perform.

For Draft Analysis of Dog House : Draft Angle is taken as 1.49 Degree for Draft Analysis of Dog House.
- Green : Angle is more than 1.49 Degree.
- Blue : Angle between 0 to 1.49 Degree.
- Red : Draft in Reverse Direction to selcted direction.

DOG HOUSE DESIGN

Steps for Dog House Design
1. Create a sketch for dog house, sketch should be iso-contrained.

Input : Dimension of Dog House taken 40*40 mm.
2. Pad the sketch to required length.

Input : Length of Dog house upside taken as 40mm and down side 15mm.
3. Draft the side faces of Pad in main tooling direction expect the top and Front face of side core tooling direction.

Input : Draft given of 1.5 degree with main tolling axis as pulling direction.
4. Fillet the edge of Pad after providing draft.

Input : Edge fillet radius taken as 1.5mm.
5. Create a Shell in Pad after draft and edge fillet, having same wall thickness as the thickness of part.

Input : Thickness given 2.5mm equal to thickness of Door trim.
6. Draft the inner face of Pad in side core axis direction after shell creation.

Input : Draft given of 0.5 Degree with side core tooling axis as pulling direction.
7. Edge fillet the inner edges of pad after creating shell and providing draft.

Input : Inner Edge fillet radius taken as 0.5mm.
8. Create the sketch for intersection of dog house at surface of part.

Input : Dimension of sketch should be such as after pocket the pad the thickness of Dog house intersection wall should be 40% or less than of wall thickness.
9. Pocket the sketch with length in range of 3-6mm from surafce as per deisgn rule.

Input : Length taken 5mm to prevent merging of material and one side.
10. Draft the pocket face in side core tooling direction.

Input : Draft provide 0.5 degree.
11. Edge fillet the pocket edges.

Input : Edge fillet Radius 0.5mm.

SIDE CORE TOOLING AXIS
Side Core : A Side core is a local core which is normally mounted at right angle to the mould axis for forming a hole or recess in the side face of a molding. This side core prevents the in-line removal of the molding and some means must be provided for withdrawing the side core prior to ejection.
Side Core Axis : Direction in which side core move normal to main tooling direction to create hole, recess or engineering feature which is not possibel by main tooling direction.

Steps for Creating a Side Core Tooling Axis :
1. Take a Refernce point on suface on which engineering feature to be create.

2. Draw a tooing axis throught reference point in direction normal to main tooling direction in which engineering feature to be made.

Side Core Tooling Axis : Tree Sructure
