Week 1 Understanding Different Battery Chemistry
AIM : Prepare a table which includes materials & chemical reactions occurring at the anode and cathode of LCO, LMO, NCA, NMC, LFP and LTO type of lithium ion cells.Give your detailed explanation on it. and Compare the differences between each type of Li+ion batteries based on their characteristics
THEORY:
A Lithium-ion battery or Li-ion battery is a type of rechargeable battery composed of cells in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode (Anode) through an electrolyte to the positive electrode (Cathode), separated by a separator, during discharge and back when charging.

Where, Anode is usually made of -
* Graphite
* Hard Carbon
* Silicon
and Cathode is made of various chemical compositions like -
* LCO - Lithium Cobalt Oxide (LiCoO2)
* LFP - Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4)
* LMO - Lithium Manganese Oxide (LiMn2O4)
* NMC - Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide(LiNiMnCoO2)
* NCA - Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminium Oxide (LiNiCoAlO2)
* LTO - Lithium Titanium Oxide (LiTiO3)
Chemical Reactions:
Reactions take place in cathode and anode as per equations given below.

All the above reactions are for Discharging, and the reactions are read from right to left during charging.
Table of Content:

CONCLUSION: Hence, different types of batteries and their characteristics are studied and compared.
