Usage of Navigation tool , Timeliner and Clash Detection test using Naviswork
1. Aim – To Export the Revit architecture and structure model to Navisworks Cache file following the export settings discussed in class
Procedure –
- To export the revit file to naviswork we have to have downloaded Navisworks first.
- Then you also have to download the Navisworks exporter utility of that version.
- This will allow you to convert the revit file to naviswork file.
- Open revit software and open both project 2 architectural and structural files.
- Go to file and you will have an option of export.

- Select NWC extension. For both files.

Result-
- The revit files are exported and saved as navisworks cache file.
2. Aim- To Use Navigate Tool to walk around the model and walk through the rooms created and record your moving as animation in your Navisworks file.
Procedure-
- Open Navisworks manage.
- Go to file and open the architectural file of the project 2 which you exported before.

- Go to home and append and select structural file.
- To walk around go to viewpoint and select walk option.

- You can control walking by mouse cursor and arrow keys on keyboard.
- To record a walking animation go to save viewpoint>record.
- Select it and walk around the model.
- Save the animation.

Result-
- An animation is recorded of walking in the model and saved it in the Navisworks.
3. Aim- To Use Navigate tool to use Realism feature to walk through the model and record your moving as animation in Navisworks file.
Procedure-
- Select viewpoint in the toolbar.
- Go to realism option and select third person option.

- Goto save viewpoint and record option.
- Select the walk option and walk around the model.
- Stop the animation and save the animation as realism.

Result-
- The realism feature is used and an animation is recorded and saved.
4. Aim – To Embed both architecture and structure *.nwc file to your Navisworks file. Create a clash detection test between the two models
a. Run the Clash Detection Test
b. Study the clashes between the two models
c. List which of the clashes could be approved
d. List which of the clashes could be neglected ( will be taken care later)
e. List which of the clashes can be resolved
f. Save the results after color coding the clashes to the Navisworks file
g. In case of resolution annotate the clash and save the view to defined views in Navisworks
Procedure-
- To Run the Clash Detection Test
- Open the both structural and architectural model in the naviswork manage.
- Go to home toolbar and select clash detective test.

- Select the architectural model in section A and structural model in section B.
- And select option run test.
- Result will be displayed.

- To approve, neglect and resolved the clashes select the status option and choose the required option.

- The colour code changes as you choose different option.

Result –
- Clash detection test is run between architectural model and structural model.
- Result are reviewed, resolved, and neglected in the test.
5. Aim- to use the Timeliner feature in Navisworks prepare a schedule for the project developed in week 6 to 8 by adding reasonable assumptions for task start date and end date and simulate the task completion as a visual simulation. Record it and save the timeline simulation to Navisworks file.
Procedure-
- Open the Navisworks manage and open the project 2 structural model.
- Go to home toolbar and select the timeliner option.
- Also select the selection tree option to select the elements in the model.

- Add tasks in the timeliner.
- Start from the bottom and from the foundation to top floor.
- Name the tasks, enter the start date, end date, actual start date, and actual end date.
- Enter the task type.
- Attach the model elements to the tasks.
- For example select foundation and attach it to given tasks.

- To see the simulation of the project go to simulate option and play it.

- Go to export animation, select timeliner simulation and save it as the construction simulation.
Result-
- The simulation of the construction process is recorded and saved.
