Underbody Coating

UNDER BODY COATING OF CARS

UNDER BODY COATING:

  • The primary objective of getting underbody coating done is preventing metal components from corrosion & rust.

  • It also protects parts like internal body panels, frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion.
  • This is especially important for the undercarriage of your vehicle, which commonly comes into contact with substances such as water, chemicals such as salt, and other dirt and debris from the road.

BENEFITS OF UNDER BODY COATING:

  • It minimizes the sound from underneath the car resulting a noiseless, smooth driving experience.
  • If any stone hits the coating it does not get chipped away hence protects the underbody from exposure to water.
  • It insulates the interior of the car from extreme temperatures from beneath the vehicle providing a comfortable cabin experience.

TYPES OF UNDER BODY COARTING:

  • There are various kinds of automotive underbody coating you can go for, for your vehicle.

  • The major method used now days are;

  • Wax Based Underbody Coating.
  • Rubberized Underbody Coating.
  • Asphalt Based Automotive Undercoating.
  • Polyurethane Underbody Coating

1.WAX BASED UNDERBODY COATING:

  • Wax underbody coating is a solvent containing, bitumen free anticorrosive agent based on wax, polymers and anticorrosive additives.
  • This method can be precision and exhibits excellent sag resistance.
  • Even in a thin layer thickness it from a closed water protecting film.
  1. RUBBERIZED UNDER BODY COATING:

  • Rubberized Undercoating produces a very tough, yet flexible, film that stays put, and helps prevent road salt from eating away at your car's metal and fiberglass. Excellent adhesion to metal or painted surfaces.
  • t provides corrosion protection from water, salt and other chemicals. Its helps deaden sound and provides a barrier against rust on cars, trucks, trailers and other recreational vehicles.
  • Rubberized undercoating do a great job of keeping existing rust all covered up and looking sharp.

3.ASPHALT – BASED UNDERCOATING:

  • Asphalt Based Undercoating does provide some benefits over Waxed Based Undercoating. They both stick well to most any surfaces and do a great job sealing out moisture, road chemicals and oxygen. But mainly, Asphalt undercoating has the benefit of being less expensive.
  • They protect anywhere up to 5 years and dry to a Firm to Hard coating.
  • Asphalt based products require more surface preparation because they can actually seal in rust and moisture allowing it to continue to grow. Finally, Asphalt based products continue to dry out over time causing cracks in the coating surface.

4.POLYURETANE UNDERCOATING:

  • polyurethane undercoats. • Formulated without lead, chromate or mercury. containing materials. Altex Yacht & Boat Paint Polyurethane Undercoat is a high performance, sandable undercoatwhich exhibits a number of significant advantages over existing polyurethane undercoats.

  • Excellent mechanical film properties such as film hardness, adhesion, scratch and abrasion resistance.
  • This type of sealant works by seeping into all cracks and seams, displacing salt and moisture and oozing around rusty areas to bond with and protect unoxidized metal. It also sands quickly in case you'll need to perform bodywork and can be painted over.
  • This type of vehicle undercoating is a little bit quicker and easier to apply.

ADVANTAGES OF THE UNDER-BODY COATING:

  • Fights Rust.
  • Absorbs Noise
  • Reinforcement.
  • Prolong cars life.
  • Heat insulation.
  • Anti-chipping property.

DISADVANTAGES OF THE UNDER-BODY COATING:

  • High cost.

  • Adds weight to the vehicles.

  • potentially dangerous.
